IndustryexpertsattheAssociationfortheStudyofPeakOilandGas(ASPO)predictthatby2008,wemayhaveextractedhalftheavailableglobalsupplyofoil.Whileittookusthebetterpartofthelastcenturytoreachthishalfwaypoint,itwilltakesignificantlylesstimetoconsumetherest.Withmoreindustrializedcountries,morecars,trucksandbuses,andmoredemandthaneverforhomeheatingandappliances—justthinkChina—oilcouldreachdepletionmorequicklythanweonceassumed.Sotheraceisunderwaytofindaffordablefuelalternatives,aswellasnewwaystoconserveourremainingoil.
