We'dbeenwarnedthatthefirst100metreswouldbereally
rough.However,somewherenearthe750mmarkIwasstillwaitingforthecalm;itfelt
more1ikeswimmingintheseathanalake.Itriedtofocusonmybreathingand
technique,andjustkeepgoing.AsIapproachedthe400m-to-gomarkmylowerrightleg
becamepainful.Irecalledoverhearingpeopletalkingabouthowtheykeptswimming
throughthepain,soItried.Butitdidn,twork.Ibegantofeeltheentirelegtight
andpainful.Ididn,twanttostop,soIbentmyrightkneeandjustkickedwiththe
