BriefintroductionSaintPatrickSaintPatrickwasthepatronsaint（

保护神）andnationalapostle（信徒）ofIrelandwhoiscreditedwithbringingchristianitytoIreland.Mostofwhatisknownabouthimcomesfromhistwoworks,theConfessio（忏悔录），aspiritualautobiography,andhisEpistola（使徒书）,adenunciation（谴责）ofBritishmistreatmentofIrishchristians.SaintPatrickdescribedhimselfasa"mosthumble-minded（谦逊）man,pouringforth（传布力量）acontinuouspaean（赞美歌）ofthankstohisMakerforhavingchosenhimastheinstrumentwherebymultitudes（群众）whohadworshippedidols（圣像）anduncleanthingshadbecomethepeopleofGod."SaintPatrick‘sDayhascometobeassociatedwitheverythingIrish:anythinggreenandgold,shamrocks（三叶草）andluck.Mostimportantly,tothosewhocelebrateitsintendedmeaning,St.Patrick’sDayisatraditionaldayforspiritualrenewal(获得新生)andofferingprayersformissionaries（传教士）

（三叶草）becamethesymboloftheIreland.Andfindingtheshamrockwithfourleavesisthesymbolofgoodfortune.Shamrocks三叶草Leprechauns

(小矮人)istheroleoflegend.Theyareshoemakersoffaery(精灵)whoareveryshortbutmovefast.Andtheylikeplayingtricksonpeople.Liketotiepeople’stwoshoelaces(鞋带)together,thentheywillfalldownwhenstandingup.

OnetheoryisthatitisthedaywhenSt.Patrickdied.SincetheholidaybeganinIreland,itisbelievedthatastheIrishspreadoutaroundtheworld,theytookwiththemtheirhistoryandcelebrations.Thebiggestobservanceofallis,ofcourse,inIreland.Withtheexceptionofrestaurantsandpubs,
