Alinearsequenceoforganismsshowingapathwayoffoodconsumptionfromproducersthroughaseriesofconsumers.Inthisseries,anorganismfeedsontheonebeforeitandformsthefoodoftheorganismafterit.

Foodchainsareshort(4-5levels)becauseonly10-20%ofenergyistransferredtothenextstage.
