DuringtheGoldRush,thousandsofAmericansfromtheEast,wheretheyhadopposedEuropeanimmigration,frequentlycamewithnativistattitudes.Andnon-Americanwhites(Irish,Russian),whohadsufferedfromEasternnativism,sawthatinattackingtheChinese,theyelevatedtheirown(shaky)status.以强凌弱Thus,Chineseimmigrantsfaceddiscriminationfrommanydifferentgroups,includingAmericanminers,whofeltthatthehard-workingandlow-paidChinesewerereducingtheirwages.DiscriminatedChineseWhentheWestexperiencedeconomicdifficulties,ChineseAmericanswereamongthefirsttobeattacked,verballyandphysically.Inaddition,territoriesandstatespasseddiscriminatorylaws.Thus,duringthefinanciallyunstable1870's,theChinesebecameanidealscapegoat:theywerestrangers,worequeues(pig-tails),kepttotheirownkind,andveryproductive.GovernorBigler—排斥华人的州长
