Thepositionofmostsolutionequilibriadependsontheelectrolyteconcentrationofthemedium,evenwhentheaddedelectrolytecontainsnoionincommonwiththoseinvolvedintheequilibrium. H3AsO4+3I-+2H+ H3AsO3+I3-+H2O Ifanelectrolyte,suchasbariumnitrate,potassiumsulfate,orsodiumperchlorate,isaddedtothissolution,thecolorofthetriiodideionbecomeslessintense.ThisdecreaseincolorintensityindicatesthattheconcentrationofI3-hasdecreasedandthattheequilibriumhasbeenshiftedtotheleftbytheaddedelectrolyte.
