ThreeDaystoSeeⅠⅠObjectivesUnderstandingthetextMasteryofsomelanguagepointsLearningthewritingstyle:autobiographyKnowingthelifeofHelenKellerLearningfromHelenKellerKnowinghowtoreadtheadministrativelanguageⅡⅡKeypointsFullunderstandingofthetextMasteryofsomelanguagepointsDistinguishautobiographyfrombiographyⅢⅢDifficultpointsSomeofthewordsandphrasesaredifficultMasteryofthereadingskillThoughbeingtoldtocherishourabilitytoseeandhearsomestudentsmightstillnotvaluetimesomuchIVTimeArrangementAbouttwoperiodsofclasswillbeusedfortheanalysisanddiscussionofthepassageitself.Totalclasshours:threeperiodsVTeachingproceduresVTeachingproceduresTitle:WhatHelenKellerwishedtoseeifshehadthepowerofsightforjustdaysPreviewQuestionsWhatwouldyoudoifyouonlyhavethreedaystosee?RelatedinformationAbouttheauthorHelenKeller(1880-1968)isoneofthemostremarkablepersonsborninthe19thcentury.Shelosthereyesightandhearingat19monthsold.Butshemanagedtoovercomethedoublehandicapofblindness&deafnessandtotakeanactivepartinthelifeoftheworld.ShegraduatedwithhonorsfromRadcliffCollegein1904.Sincethenshecarriedonacareerthathadreallybegunattheageof11,whenshearrangedateapartyatwhichshecollectedmoneytohelptheeducationofasmallerdeaf-blindchild.Eveninhereighties,shestillspentherbusylifeintheserviceoftheotherhandicappedpeople.Shetraveledwidely&hadfriendsovertheworld.Ofcourse,shecouldneverhaveaccomplishedthisalone.JustasremarkableasMissKillerwasherteacher,AnneSullivan,whoundertooktoleadheroutofthedarkness&enablehertohaveanormallife.Helenwroteanumberofbooks,includingherautobiography&abiographyofMissSullivan.Duringherlife,HelenKellerwasoneoftheworld'sgreatheroes.Herremarkablestorywaswellknownthroughouttheworld.Bornin1880,shecontractedanillnesswhenshewaslessthan2yearsoldthatleftherunabletohearorsee.Atatimewhenthelivesofmostpeople,andcertainly,mostdisabledpeople,wereconstrainedbytheirsociety'smedical,philosophical,social,andeconomiclimitations,MissKellerwentontodevelopformidablepowersofintellectualandemotionalachievement.Shetraveledtothefarthestreachesoftheworld;becamealeadingfigurewhopubliclycampaignedonbehalfofcivilrights,humandignity,women'ssuffrage,andworldpeace;andmetthemostcelebratedpersonalitiesofhertime.ItisthereforenotsurprisingthatHelenKellertodayremainsawomanwhoseastoundingpersonalityandaccomplishmentsattractwidespreadadmirationandawe.AboutAnneSullivanAnneSullivanhadlostmostofhersightattheageoffive.Bytheageoften,hermotherdiedandherfatherdesertedher.SheandherbrotherJimmieweresenttothepoorhouseinFebruary1876.Anne'sbrotherdiedinthepoorhouse.ItwasOctober1880whenAnnefinallyleftandwenttocommencehereducationatthePerkinsInstitution.Onesummerduringhertimeattheinstitute,Annehadtwooperationsonhereyes,whichledtoherregainingenoughsighttobeabletoreadnormalprintforshortperiodsoftime.AnnegraduatedfromPerkinsin1886andbegantosearchforwork.FindingworkwasterriblydifficultforAnne,duetoherpooreyesight,andwhenshereceivedtheofferfromMichaelAnagnostoworkastheteacherofHelenKeller,adeaf-blindmute,althoughshehadnoexperienceinthisarea,sheaccepteditwillingly.SheworkedveryhardandwasinstrumentalintheeducationofKeller.Aboutthetext"ThreeDaystoSee"isthemostbeautifulpieceofwritingeverwrittenbyablindperson.Itslanguageislucid,subtleandprosaic.Ittellsustheexactperceptionofablindandperhapsonlyablindcanwritesuchawonderfulpiece.HelenKeller,fromthepointofviewofablind,tellsushowtovalueoursight.TextAnalysisPartI(para.1-2):Introduction:Whatshouldwedoifwearegivenonlyafewdaystolive?PartII(para.3-7):Twokindsofattitudestowardlife:treasureeachday,livingwithagentleness,avigor&akeennessofappreciationvs.“Eat,drinkandbemerry”PartIII(Para.8-19):Theauthor‟spointofview:theseeingseelittle,nottreasuringtheirsightmuch&payinglittleattentiontotheworldaroundhimbyprovidingherownexperience&observation.PartIV.(lastpara.):Theauthorwishesthatshecouldhavethepowerofsightforjustthreedays,emphasizingthepreciousnessofsight.Languagepoints
