However, do you know this day have it

2、s special significance to the people of ChaoShan area?4 At the ChaoShan area, the QiXi festival is the day that the children who reach 15 years old turn into an adult. 5 People believed that children under 15 years old is grow up in an unseen garden and is protected by the supernatural being called

3、“Flower Grandparents”.6When the children reach 15 years old ,they should not live in the garden anymore and the fairy will not protect them so they should go out of the garden which shows they are no longer kids.7On that day, the childs mum should gather 3 kinds of meats and fruits in the number of

4、4, 8 or 12. After putting themon a shallow basket，8 the child should worships(祭拜)the censer(香炉) of “Flower Grandparents”. （公婆神），and after that, they dont need to do it any more.9In some areas , such as Chenghai(澄海), Chaoyang（潮阳）and Raoping（饶平）, according to their customs , parents ask their child to

5、 take a bath with 12 kinds of fresh flowers. However , children have to eat the intestine and the stomach of a pig in Jiedong（揭东）, Puning（普宁）and Huilai（惠来），and they call it the replacement of intestines and stomach. 10The child who goes out of the garden should wear new clothes and red wooden shoes(

6、红皮屐). 11As for boys, they have to eat the head of a rooster ,while girls have to eat the head of a hen or a duck. This is because people here believed that children wear such clothes and eat those food can bring lucky to them. 12The food of the lunch is really rich ！Meat & three kinds of eggs ；a kin

7、d of local vegetable calls Houhe（厚合）； green garlic(青蒜）-means that they hope their children can calculate well（能除会算） after eating it ；celery（芹菜）-means they will study and work hard. 1314In addition, the head of the chicken have to face to him or her, and others cant eat the chicken. This means him or

8、 her will become outstanding and prosperous(兴旺发达） when he or she grows up.15At that noon, in some families, especially whose elder child or their son are to go out of the garden, they will invite many guests to have a big lunch. Because the protagonist(主角） cant meet with strangers, almost the gusts

9、are their relatives and friends. During the lunch, everyone else has to obey the rules of the seats, the protagonist(主角）should sit at the main seat, even though their grandparents are at present.16By the way, there are many taboos(禁忌）that, for example, children arent allow to climb ups and downs and cross bridges in Jieyang（揭阳 ）, and they cant see beggers in Shantou(汕头).17This special ceremony is similar to the “Adds the capping ceremony”(加冠礼) or “Adds hair clasp ceremony ” (加笄礼) in the ancient time.18 There is no explicit record for us to know when the custom “out o
