4、n converts inputs (e.g. labor, material, knowledge, equipment) into outputs (goods and services) for both its external and internal markets. Operations Management, studies the concepts and techniques, such as TQM, JIT, MRP, and supply chain management, that makes the conversion process more efficien

5、t and profitable.Operations managers, ranging from first-level supervisors to senior vice presidents, are concerned with the production of goods and services. More specifically, they are responsible for designing, running, controlling, and improving production systems. Every organization, whether ma

6、nufacturing or service, public or private, deals with operations planning and management.As recent experience has shown in global markets, significant competitive advantages accrue to those firms capable of producing quality goods and services efficiently. For this reason the careful design and mana

7、gement of the operations process is of fundamental importance for the long-term success and survival of a corporation. We shall focus on the decision problems that confront operations managers. The purpose of courseLearn computer and analytical tools for analysis, management and performance improvem

8、ent of operations management.Discuss concepts and recent influential innovations in operations management.Gain exposure to a broad range of examples that will demonstrate the effectiveness and appropriateness of operational solutions implemented in various settings.Prerequisite Expected by Instructo

9、rAlthough we will not be delving very deeply into the math, Operations Management is, at its heart, quantitative (primarily algebra and statistics). As indicated by the prerequisites, the student is expected to have taken entry level courses on Probability and Statistics. As you may know, MS Excel i

10、s a very effective and powerful tool. It will be used a lot during this course. Material will be covered in class that cannot be found in the required and optional readings. Students can h

13、elp to improve their grade by up to 5% by attending and actively participating in class. The instructor will do his best to assign bonus points objectively, thus no attempted negotiation will be tolerated. Attendance will be taken randomly during the semester. 1% total points will be deducted for ea

14、ch absence.Most grading in this class is based on achievement. This class participation bonus allows students to improve their grade based on effort. If any students are struggling with their assignments, then have no excuse for not striving to receive a 5% attendance and participation credit. This

15、represents a very easy way to improve your grade. 20、ed during the semester. These are typically designed to give students practice in applying the managerial knowledge and quantitative techniques learned in class. To get full credit, your homework should have your name and ID number written clearly on the front page and should be stapled. The problems sets will be handed out at least three days prior to the due date. It is due before the class on the due date and no late assignment will be accepted. QuizzesAll quizzes are noncomprehensive. However, they are closed book. During the quiz, you may not
