4、who died was my only child, andshare my life with you and leave my riches to you.T his maynot make sense to you or anyone else, butbelieve you areworth the offer. I have arranged matters so that if you will receive my offer of forgiveness,not only will you be pardonedfor your crime, but you also wil

9、lt champion, shares a moving story about a skinny young boy who loved football with all his heart.P ractice after practice, he eagerly gave everything he had. B ut being half the size of the other boys, he got absolutely nowhere. A t all the games, this hopeful athlete sat on the bench and hardly ev

10、er played.T his teenager lived alone with his father, and the two of them had a very special relationship. E ven though the son was always O n the bench, his father was always in the stands cheering. H e never missed a game. T his young man was still the smallest of the class whenhe entered high sch

But his father continued to encourage him but also made it very clear that he did not have to play football if he didnt want to.B ut the young man loved football and decided to hang in there He was determined to try his best at every practice, andperhaps hed get to play when he becamea senior.

12、A ll through high school he never missed a practice nor a gamebut remained a bench-warmer all four years. His faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him.When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a walk-on. E veryone w

13、as sure he could never make the cut, but he did.T he coach admitted that he kept him on the roster because he always puts his heart and soul to every practice,and at thesametime, provided the other memberswith the spiritand hustlethey badly needed.The news that he had survived the cut thrilled him s

14、o much that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father.His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games. T his persistent young athlete never missed practice during his four years at college, but he never got to play in a game.I t was the end of his se

15、nior football season, and as he trotted onto the practice field shortly before the big playoff game, the coach met him with a telegram. T he young man read the telegram and he became deathly silent. S wallowing hard, he mumbledto the coach, My father died this morning. I s it all right if I miss pra

16、ctice today? T he coach put his arm gently around his shoulder and said, Take the rest of the week off, son. A nd dont even plan to come back to the game on S aturday.S aturday arrived, and the gamewas not going well. I n the third quarter,when the team was ten points behind, a silent young man quie

17、tly slipped into the empty locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the sidelines, the coach and his players were astounded to see their faithful teammate back so soon. C oach, please let me play. Ive just got to play today, said the young man. T he coach pretended not to hear him. T

18、 here was no way he wanted his worst player in this close playoff game. B ut the young man persisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in. All right, he said. Y ou can go in. B efore long, the coach, the players and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes.T hislittle

19、 unknown, who had never played before was doing everything right. T he opposing team could not stop him. H e ran, he passed, blocked, and tackled like a star.H is teambegan to triumph. T he score was soon tied. I n the closing seconds of the game, this kid intercepted a pass and ran all the way for

20、the winning touchdown. T he fans broke loose. H is teammates hoisted him onto their shoulders. S uch cheering you never heard.F inally, after the stands had emptied and the team had showered and left the locker room, the coach noticed that this young manwas sitting quietly in the corner all alone Th

21、e coach came to him and said, Kid, I cant believe it. You were fantastic! T ell me what got into you? H ow did you do it?H e looked at the coach, with tears in his eyes, and said, Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind? T he young man swallowed hard and forced a smile, Da

But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave. Sol reached for the flower, and replied, J ust what

27、I need.But instead of him placing the flower in myhand, He held it mid-air without reason or plan. I t was then that I noticed for the very first time, that weed-toting boy could not see: he was blind.I heard my voice quiver, tears shone like the sun. As I thanked him for picking the very best one.

28、Y oure welcome, he smiled, and then ran off to play, Unaware of the impact hed had on my day.I sat there and wondered how he managed to see a self-pitying womarbeneath an old willow tree.
