3、mmaryThe Necklace tells the story of Madame Mathilde Loisel and her husband. Mathilde always imagined herself in a high social position with wonderful jewels. However she has nothing and marries a low paid clerk who tries his best to make her happy.Through lots of begging at work, he is able to get

4、two invitations to the Ministry of the Public Instruction party. Mathilde then refuses to go, for she has nothing to wear. Her husband is upset to see her displeasure and, using money that he was saving to buy a rifle, he lets Mathilde buy a dress that suits her. But Mathilde is still not happy, she

5、 wants jewels to wear with it. Since they have no money left, her husband suggests that she borrow something from her friend, Madame Jeanne Forestier. Mathilde picks out the fanciest jewel necklace that she can find. After attending the Ministry of Public Instruction party, Mathilde discovers that s

6、he has lost the necklace. Plot summary Mathilde and her husband look everywhere but the necklace is not to be found. They take out loans from generous friends and loan sharks to buy a diamond necklace that looks just like the one that was lost. It takes them ten years of hard labor to come up with t

7、he 36,000 francs necessary to pay them back. Toward the end, Mathilde takes a walk, remembering her past and the night when the necklace was lost. Suddenly she sees Madame Jeanne Forestier and goes to meet her. Mathilde confesses about that night and how she worked so hard to return her necklace. Mm

He is always trying to make his wife satisfied and she never appreciates him or their way of life. De Maupassant makes this clear in the beginning by telling the reader t

12、hat “she let herself be married to a little clerk”. The word let indicates her unhappiness with her marriage to him. He works hard to get an invitation to the Ministers ball and his wife only gets upset because she has nothing fancy to wear. He uses his money he had saved for a vacation with friends

After his wife loses an expensive looking necklace, Monsieur Loisel risks everything to take out loans that in order to buy a real diamond necklace to replace the lost one. He works two and sometimes three jobs for ten years and lives in poverty to pay back the loans for t

The irony in The Necklace the irony is Mathilde desperately wants to be of a higher class so she sacrifices one night of excitement and being noticed by the rich that she ends up spending her whole life even more unhappy and poor than she started out because she borrowed what she

The ultimate irony is that the necklace that Madame Loisele borrowed to prove that she was a member of high society proved to be as fake as her belief that she was a member of that high society. also she thought that the ball was going to make
