While different ,they are all visual animals.Now scientists have uncovered a fish species that uses both visual andchemical disguise( 伪装).Rohan Brooker, one of the researchers who made the discovery said thathe

2、 first thought of the idea after reading about a species which takes on the smell of the plant that iteats.Thus, its predators ,ants walk right over it.SineeHarlequin Filefish are picky eaters that feed totallyoff the Acropora a beautifulspecies of blue/purple coral , Brooker theorized thatthey too

3、may be using a similar trick to fool their predators.To test his theory , Brookers team acquired some filefishfrom the Great BarrierReef a nd divided them into two groups.For the n ext four weeks, one group fed on their normal diet ofthe Acropora coral , while the other fed on the Pocilloporacoral.I

4、norder to test if therewas any differenee in the way they smelled, the researchersdid another experiment.They found the smells from the two groups were different.But there was still aquesti on of whether the smell was strong eno ugh to protect the fish from their n atural predators.To test that , Br

5、ookers team added a predatory species of cod(鳕鱼)to themix.Sure eno ugh , the cod that were placed in the tank containing the fish fed on the Pocillopora coralwere immediately able to sense them.ln contrast, the cod inthe tank where the fish had bee n fed on their n atural diet the Acropora coral,app
