2、ssing table, which was nearly as high as I was. Now I still like to look into the mirror. When I look at it, I found the face of a young woman growing maturaty, confident in her future and still fascinated with her own reflection. The fact that I like to look into the mirror lies to mygranny with wh

3、om I spent most of my childhood. I remember clearly thatone night, I heard my granny murmuring, women cant be seen,women cant be seen. Ihe next morning I went to check into themirror if I couldn t deep see myself. Only now as a young woman myself, can I understand it was not the physical visibility

4、that granny had inher mind. Granny spent all her life taking care of her family day in and day out. She cooked for her husband and ten children, but whenever guests came, she and other female family members had to eat by the stove in the small kichen. At family discussions, she was never asked for h

5、er opinion. When grandpa passed away, she had tolisten to my uncle, her elder son who became master of the house. Three years of tiol, she fulfills her duty as daughter, wife and mother it has a person she remained to be noticed. If she had seen herself inthe mirror of the dressing table, she was ne

6、ver visible in the mirror of the society.I have been living a different life. At home, I made decisions together with the rest of the family. At school, I take charge of very opportunity the same as other boys and girls. Not only that, I can see something that granny has not dreamed of, to make deci

7、sions for my own future. I can choose from several competitive universities because I come out of high school. At university, I could choose from a range of subjects chaging from English literature to business law. And now upongr aduation, I m again faced the serious decisions to further my study or

8、 go to work; to stay in China or go abroad, to get married right awayor remain single for a bit longer. It doesnot matter with their nod whether I become famous or rich, but I treasure the chance to demonstrate my potentials and to help other women demonstrate theirs as full members of society fully

9、 visible in the mirror of history. I willtreasure it because theres aboundance ofchoices that I enjoy can only after decades of efforts made by mygranny, my mum and millions of other Chinese women. However, thechoice to be made by me and others of my generation is a greatchallenge. The misconception

10、 that men are superior to women is stilldominating many peoples mind. While men in courage to compete and toacertain themselves, we expected to be quiet, layal, and obedient. This is not very different from what is expected of us as good wives and good mothers.The story of my grandmother and myself

11、mirrors the life of millions of other women in China and perhaps in the world. Many of them are still live a life of my grandmother. They was not recognised It is then our responsibility of young women like me to study hard and work hard so that they too will see themselves and will be seen in the mirror of society .
