1、GE Series Capacitor ExperienceUpdated: April, 2007GE SERIES CAPACITOR EXPERIENCEGEs extensive series compensation experience extends over more than seven decades from the initial supply of the first series capacitor installation in the United States for NY Power & Light in 1928. Since then, GE h

2、as continued to provide utilities worldwide with reliable systems to increase power transfer and improve stability. Todays technology for series compensation is based on primary overvoltage protection provided by Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV), with Triggered Air Gaps (TAG) to limit the energy duty on

3、the MOVs. A brief summary showing GEs broad experience range, flexibility and capabilities in these equipments is: First prototype equipment placed in service in 1979 at the North John Day substation Transmission line voltages from 220 to 765 kV Power ratings from 29 to 1242 MVAr three-phase MOV ene

4、rgy ratings from 4 to over 300 MJ per phase Protective level voltages for single switching steps with TAGs up to 311 kV peak Externally Fused, Internally Fused and Fuseless capacitor units Over 100,000 capacitor units in service Protection systems with Triggered Air Gaps and Gapless Fixed and Thyris
