Questions over the safety of vaccines came into the mainstream in the late 1990s, caused by international debate over a claimed connection between a vaccine and autism (自闭性自闭性) Actress Jenny McCarthy became an advocate for the cause, blaming her own sons autism on the

3、 vaccine. The movement quickly gained advocacy from parents who wanted to protect their children from a developmental disorder for which there is still no known cause. Since 1997, theres been a worldwide decline in the number of school children from kindergarten through high school who are fully vac

4、cinated. In Washington state, a lot of parents refused vaccinations for their kindergartenage children. This meant 6.2 percent of these children were missing one or more immunizations (免疫免疫) in the 202110 school year, according to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No vaccine is

5、 100 percent effective. But vaccinating creates a firewall against the spread of contagious diseases. “This isnt about protecting one child; its about protecting the entire community, said Dr Gary Goldbaum, health officer for the Snohomish Health District. “Our point of view is that immunizations ar

6、e one of the top medical achievements of all time, he said. “They work really well at preventing illness and diseases. “Nationally, more than 10 million vaccines are given each year to children less than one year old. The number of vaccinations for children now at 16 is the largest its ever been, he
