2、生活一直被鄙视、嘲讽、毒打所包围,但是她没有被这些所吓到,反而激发起了她对这些丑陋人的嫉恨,她要反抗,要平等,要自尊。本文将对作者女性主义思想产生的原因以及简爱中的女性主义思想进行论述,她的女性主义思想主要是通过他哦破美丽的俗套,独立、顽强、自尊、自爱以及政治、经济平等的新式爱情观来体现,通过论述使我们加深对女性主义思想的认识,从而促进我国女性自我意识的觉醒与提高。关键词:女性主义思想;独立;顽强;新式爱情观 abstractthe status of women in modern society in general has increased, but due to the influe

9、ported by equal status and independent human dignity . jane eyre has a great influence upon the society at that time . for a long time , the image of jane eyre is favored by numerous readers very much. and charlotte bronte is famous for jane eyre . at the time of charlotte bronte s writing of jane e

18、 - reliant and self - progressive. part one :the basic information of this novel1.1.introduction of charlotte bronte charlotte bronte was born in 1816,the third daughter of the rev.patrick bronte and his wife maria.she enrolled as a pupil at the clergy daughters school at cowan bridge in 1824.the fo
19、llowing year she was brought home because of the contagious disease.in 1826,charlotte,emily,bran-well and ann wrote about an imaginary world called angria.in 1831 ,she became a student at the school at roe head and later became a governess there.from then on,she worked as a governess for several tim
20、es,but every time she gave it up soon for she can not suffer the harsh treatment.so she then decided to open her own school,unfortunately,her dream did not come true,because her advertisements did not elicit a single response from the public,in 1846,she discovered emilys poems by chance and decided
21、to publish them.she also completed the professor this year,but it was rejected for publication.the next year,however,charlotte brontes jane eyre was publication and brought her a geat deal of money,so she led a better life.but soon bran-well bronte,emily and ann died one after another.this made she
22、felt very upset.in 1849,charlotte bronte visited london and began to move in literary circles,and make the acquaintance.by 1854,charlotte bronte and nicholls became engaged and then married.unfortunately,she died the next year,probably of pneumonia,and took an unborn baby away.charlotte bronte opene
23、d up new possibilities for the form of english novel,and at the same time she provided a basis for which psychological exploration became a key component in the development of the genre of the novel.she also contributed much to the position of women at her time.she did much to alter the way in which

26、nk in this aspect.so the author will focus the thesis on the feminist idea of jane eyre.different form others,the author will probe it mainly form three aspects independence,equality and liberty.jane eyre is the protagonist and narrator in this novel,she develops from an angry,rebellous,10-year-old
27、orphan into a sensitive,artistic,maternal,and fiercely independent young woman.while janes social class is one of her biggest barriers,it best serves to underscore janes need for independence,both financial and emotional.she will have to forfeit her independence in the unions,and marries rochester o
28、nly when she has attained financial independence and self-esteem to maintain a marriage of equality,this self-esteem is gained through janes making her mark in various worlds in which she is valued for her humanity and values.paralleling janes desire for independence is her search for a proper set o
29、f religious values.she rejects the extremist models of brocklehurst,helen burns,and st.john,eventually settling on a spirituality of love and connection.the story told with terrific intensity.the suffering of jane were presented so powerfully and in such a simple but plain language that they couldnt
30、 be read without emotion,it was not a romance,like other novels of charlotte bronte.jane eyre was characterized by relentless truthfulness to ordinary reality.even when the action was most exiting,its detail was strictly true like the real life.jane eyre is unique in victorian fiction.it was the fir
31、st english novel.it is a work of fiction with memorable characters and vivid scenes,written in a compelling prose style.in appealing to both the head and the heat,jane eyre triumphs over its flaws and remains a classic of nineteenth-century english literature and one of the most popular of all engli
32、sh novels.1.3.the social background of jane eyre 1832,the year when the first reform bill was passed,is usually regarded as the end of the romantic era and the beginning of the victorian age,although queen victorian did not star her reign until 1837.the victorian age(1832-1902)was a time of profound
33、 change.the industrial revolution had reshaped the class structure of english society by creating the rich bourgeoisies and powerful but politically deprived proletariat who would have to fight for their right.human knowledge also made major advances that inevitably posed as a direct challenge to th
34、e authority of religion.the victorian age is usually subdivided into the following phases:the early victorian period,the mid-victorian period,and late victorian period.charlotte bronte wrote jane eyre in the early victorian period when the conflict between labor and capital was so sharp.in this peri
35、od the labor cried for democracy,freedom and equality.the orphaned protagonist of the story. when the novel begins, she is an isolated, powerless ten-year-old living with an aunt and cousins who dislike her. as the novel progresses, she grows in strength. she distinguishes herself at lo wood school
36、because of her hard work and strong intellectual abilities. as a governess at thornfield, she learns of the pleasures and pains of love through her relationship with edward rochester. after being deceived by him, she goes to marsh end, where she regains her spiritual focus and discovers her own stre
37、ngth when she rejects st. john rivers marriage proposal. by novels end she has become a powerful, independent woman, blissfully married to the man she loves, rochester. edward fairfax rochester janes lover; a dark, passionate, brooding man. a traditional romantic hero, rochester has lived a troubled
38、 wife. married to an insane creole woman, bertha mason, rochester sought solace for several years in the arms of mistresses. finally, he seeks to purify his life and wants jane eyre, the innocent governess he has hired to teach his foster daughter, adle var-ens, to become his wife. the wedding falls
39、 through when she learns of the existence of his wife. as penance for his transgressions, he is punished by the loss of an eye and a hand when bertha sets fire to thornfield. he finally gains happiness at the novels end when he is reunited with jane. part two:feminism in jane eyre 2.1 .the definitio
40、n of feminism with the development of the society,feminism became one of the hottest topics in the modern society,and it needs to be solved as early as possible,so many people put their focuses on the feminism and more and more experts pay their special attention to it.people always saw and heard th
41、is word,but whats does this word mean?according to the definition,the answer is:feminism also called w omens liberation,or women rights movement,guarantees of political,social,and economic equality for women in a society that traditionally confers more status and freedom to men.these right include c
42、ontrol of property,equality of opportunity in education and employment,suffrage,and sexual freedom.feminism has been a prominent and controversial topic in writing for the past two centuries.jane eyre is a feminist novel,it explores the depth at which women may act in society and finds its own bound
43、aries in victorian england.as well,along with the notions of feminism often follow the subjects of class distinctions and boundaries.there is an ample amount of evidence to suggest that the tone of jane eyre is in fact a very feminist one and may well be thought as relevant to the women of today who
44、 feel they have been discriminated against because of their gender.at the beginning of them felt uncomfortable when they attempted to enter many parts of society.the absence of advanced education opportunities for women and their alienation from almost all fields of work gave them little option in l
45、ife:either became a house-wife or a governess.though today a tutor may be considered a fairly high class and intellectual job,in the victorian era,a governess was little more than a servant who was paid to share her scarce amount of knowledge in limited fields to a child.they usually have little res
46、pect,security or status.2.2. janes opinion of equality between man and woman this book is written in the first person and contains some authentic autobiographical experiences.jane eyer is the leading role in this book,and she is the symbol of new female who have the courage to pursue the ideal and d
47、are revolt.of course,mr.rochester is the other important role in this novel.the author wants to portray the special character of the leading role-jane through their love story.this contrasts with the situation of w omens low status in victorian age,and shows the idea that women want freedom and inde
48、pendence.this is also the reason why this novel is popular for more than one century.in this book,author leads us to see janes opinion about,marriage and janes attitude towards equality between man and women. all of this is to show jane struggles continually to achieve equality and to overcome oppre
49、ssion.she fights against those who believe women to be inferior to men.she thinks women and men are equal.in chapter12jane saidwomen are suppose to be very calm generally,but women feel just are men feel they need exercise for their faculties,and field for their efforts as much as their brothers do,
50、they suffer from too rigid a restraint,too absolute a stagnation,precisely as men would suffer and it is narrow-minded in their more privileged fellow-creatures to say that they ought to confine themselves to making pudding and knitting stockings,to playing on the plan and embroidering bags.it is th
