We have celebrated the festival since the first pioneers from England arrived in America.,（1）含义：在复合句中，由时间连接词引导的表示时间的状语从句叫作时间状语从句。连接时间状语从句的连接词有：when, before, after, while, as soon as, until, since等。,（2）常见的时间状语从句： 1）when引导的从句 表示主句的动作和从句的动作同时发生或者先后发生。如： When she came in, I was eati

3、ng. 她进来时，我正在吃东西。 When I lived in the countryside, I used to carry some water for him. 我住在农村时，我常常为他担水。,2）while引导的从句 表示“当时”，强调主句的动作在从句动作进行的过程中发生。由于while从句表示一个持续的行为，所以从句中要用延续性动词，并且延续性动词常用进行时态。如： Dont make any noise while I am recording. 我在录音时（你们）别发出噪音。,while还可用作并列连词，意为“而；然而”，表示对比。如： Some people waste f

4、ood while others havent enough to eat. 有些人浪费食物，然而有些人却吃不饱。 3）before引导的从句 一般表示主句的动作发生在从句动作之前。如： I didnt know any English before I came here. 我来这儿之前，一点英语都不懂。,4）after引导的从句 表示主句的动作发生在从句动作之后。如： After he locked the door, he left. 他锁上门后就走了。 5）since引导的从句 表示“自从以来”，从句中的动词表示动作的起点，常用一般过去时。主句中的动词表示动作延续的情况，一般用现在完成

5、时。其常用结构如下：,A. 主句（现在完成时）+since+从句（一般过去时）。如： He hasnt been home since he graduated. 他毕业后没回过家。 B. It be/has been+一段时间+since+从句。如： It is/has been two years since I became a postgraduate student 我成为研究生已有两年了。,6）until引导的从句 A. 表示“直到”，主句和从句都用肯定式。如： They worked until it was late. 他们一直工作到天黑。 B. 表示“直到才”，主句用否定式，
