America.Thinking back to my years in middle and high schoolten years ago,I would be rewarded if I had read a number of classics.Today,a majority of those books are now also movies:Life of Pi,The Great Gatsby,Much Ado About Nothing and Anna Karenina, to name a few.Even modern books such as The Hunger Games and Harry Potter have been adapted for the big screen. In discussion with my students,I often hear them say they are not going to read books because movies will come out soon, which makes me wonder what effect movie adaptations have on modernday students. Will the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) encourage them to read books more carefully or to use movies to improve their understanding of the text? The CCSS requires students to provide textbased evidence when reading and discussing a book.By focusing on such evidence, teachers can pull specific details from a book that may have not been cut when the book was adapted for the big screen. For instance, after reading and watching The Hunger Gamesthere were a number of details from the book that were missing from the filmmany people were disappointed with Rues meek (温顺的)movie role.A student who failed to read The Hunger Games would not quite understand Rues impact on the games in the same way as someone who had read the book and remembered all the details that went into her death.I am not saying the CCSS will stop students from cutting corners, but I believe if teachers use the support the CCSS provides,it can be a great roadway to ensure all students are digging deep into texts and not just hitting the play button.【语篇解读】你是不是更喜欢轻松地按下play键来看一部由经典文学作品改编的电影? 还是打开原著,细品经典吧!24Ten years ago, students in America were _.Afond of reading all kinds of novelsBforbidden to discuss movies in classCnot number of classics.” 25Which of the following might be the effect that movie adaptations have on modernday students?AThey spend less time in studying.BThey cant understand English texts.CThey spend less time in reading.DThey discuss movies more frequently. 根据第二段中的“In discussion with my students,I often hear them say they are not going to read books because movies will come out soon”可知,因为有名著改编的电影,现在的学生不读书了,故选择C项。26What can we learn from the third paragraph?AThe Hunger Games is the worst movie adaptation.BIt is a waste of time reading and discussing a book in class.CMovie adaptations may bring trouble in understanding the books.DRues impact on the games is perfectly presented in the movie. 27According to the text,it seems that the CCSS _.Aprevents students watching moviesBprovides students with wellknown moviesCencourages students to write novelsDprovides guidance on teaching and learning解析:选D推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中的“I believe if teachers use the support the CCSS provides,it can be a great roadway to ensure all students are digging deep into texts and not just hitting the play button.” CAfter bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market,so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.Unlike regular gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, standalone rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.Every foursquaremeter room is equipped with a treadmill(跑步机),an air cleaner,a mirror,a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the shades for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the others (Detroit,Cleveland and Buffalo being the biggest Sweetest Day cities)It is a holiday that is gaining in popularity throughout the country.Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose help and kindness we have enjoyed. Many years ago,a Cleveland man, believing that the citys orphans and shutins often felt forgotten and neglected, formed the idea of showing them that they were remembered. He did this through the distribution of small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors,he distributed these remembrances on a Saturday in October.During the years that followed, other Clevelanders began to participate in the celebration ceremony, which came to be called “Sweetest Day”. In time, the Sweetest Days idea of spreading cheer to the poor was broadened to include everyone, and the day became an occasion for remembering others with a kind act or a small gift. And soon the idea spread to other cities all over the country.Sweetest Day is not based on any single groups religious belief or on a family relationship. It is a reminder that a thoughtful word or deed enriches life and gives it meaning.Because for many people remembering takes the form of giftgiving,Sweetest Day offers us the opportunity to show others that we care about them,in a practical way.【语篇解读】本文介绍了美国的Sweetest Day这个节日的由来、意义和庆祝方式等。32Sweetest Day is celebrated to _.Aspread religious beliefBmake someone cheer upCstrengthen family relationshipDhelp the poor get out of trouble解析:选B细节理解题。根据文章第二段中的“Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October as a day to make someone happy.” B。33Sweetest Day originated in _.ADetroitBClevelandCBuffaloDNew York解析:选B细节理解题。
