In warming up there is a quiz to test the students how much they know about AIDS. Listening materials introduce the work people do at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Speaking deals with the most serious problems today. Reading and integrating skills tell the students what AIDS and cancer are and what attitudes we should choose to face the problems. The grammarthe Subjunctive Mood helps the students learn to talk about things that are unreal or imaginary.Teaching Goals1. Talk about deadly diseases and attitudes towards AIDS, cancer, etc.2. I receive all my work via e-mail. 8persuade Vt (1)跟不定式的复合结构(persuade sb. to do sth.= persuade sb into doing sth.) He also persuaded other people to provide money or to give help 他也说服了其他人或者提供钱或者提供帮助。 你能不能劝他改变那个愚蠢的计划? Can you persuade him to change the foolish plan? (2)跟带副词或介词短语的复合结构 She persuade him up for a cup coffee 她劝他上来喝杯咖啡。 Its very difficult to persuade him of the fact. *persuade的准确含义是“说服”,表示“说而不服”不能用persuade,而用try to persuade 我试着去说服他放弃吸烟,可他拒绝了。 I tried to persuade him to give up smoking but he refused. We know people will enjoy a longer and healthier life, and that medical science allows us to deal with new disease. But we are still under the threat of some deadly diseases.1. Ask the students to name some deadly diseases.(Brainstorm)2. Show two pictures to let the students know the importance of learning something about AIDS. (Picture 1 Estimated number of people living with HIV/AIDS, 1999-2003 Pictures 2 Number of deaths due to AIDS globally, 1999-2003)Step 2:Warming up1. A quiz Get the students to do the quiz individually and mark the scores to make sure how much they know about AIDS.2. Talk about the pictures: The boy on the right is a HIV carrier3. Discuss why people in the pictures should be so frightened. Then help the students know how the AIDS virus can be transmitted.(group work)Step 3Speaking (Group work) Say “People get frightened when talking about AIDS, its clear that AIDS is a very serious social problem. And what is the most serious social problem? Is it AIDS, drugs, smoking or drinking? Why?”1. Divide the students into groups of 4 and get them to prepare role cards.2. Get the students to go through the useful expressions3. Let the students work in groups and try to persuade the other group members.4.
