Warming up The teacher plays a section of TV programme about the Beijing 2008 Olympics for the students to enjoy. Step 2. Lead-in The teacher shows the students some pictures of the sports Icons of the the 29th Beijing Olympic Games such as swimming, boxing, weightlifting, etc, and then ask the students,Are you interested in them?, and Do you know the origin of the Olympic Games?, and Whats the spirit of the Olympics?OK, now lets begin our cultural journey to the Olympic Games. Step3. Pre-reading 1. Background information The teacher tells students the backgrounds of the Olympic Games and some basic knowledge of it. 2. Brainstorm The teacher says, “ What words do you think we will need to talk about the Olympic Games?”. Then she writes the words “Olympic Games” in a circle on the blackboard, and collect the words from students. Then the teacher teaches more new words in English. After that, the teacher explains the future passive voice. Step 3 While-reading 1. Skimming The teacher asks the students to act the interview and have a main idea about the Olympic Games.2. Scanning The teacher demands the students to read the passage quickly and find the answers for the questions that the teacher designed.3. Group work The teacher divides the whole class into several groups of two, and asks each group to design some questions for the knowledge about the Olympic Games in this passage and then ask other groups to answer questions . 4. Role play The teacher requires each group to make up a dialogue according to the interview, and then chooses some pairs to perform it out. Step 4. Post-reading The teacher guides the learners to do the group work to discuss the differences between the ancient Olympic Games and the modern Olympic Games. Step 5.
