Heal The ChildrenThank you, thank you very kindly my dear friends and Im honored to join with you today to share something from the bottom of my heart. I knew that a lot of noble figures have given speeches of this topic such as Mother Theresa, Ronald Reagan and Michael Jackson. But Im sure they didnt find it any easier being up here than I do.Heal the children, no doubt it is a huge topic. I suppose I should start by stating some reasons that why I have qualifications to make the comments as follows. I do not have the knowledge like Einstein has, I do not have the prize that Mother Teresa has won and I do not have the money that Bill Gates has saved to do all kinds of charities. But I do claim to have experienced more places and cultures than most of the students will ever seen. Thats why we say that human knowledge consists not only of libraries of parchment and inkit also comprised of the volumes of knowledge that are written on the human heart, chiselled on the human soul, and engraved on the human psyche.All of us are the products of childhood, though I thought I lived in the days lacking in childhood. Lacking in the days when I am free enough to dash along the field, lacking in the days when I can play muds on a rainy day toghther with several kids and we shape the mud into a architechture that has not been assumed in this real world, lacking in the days when after a whole days “hard work” I would fall asleep with a prince pillow and mama telling the story of Snow White.To my surprise, when my teacher came to this topic in his Chinese class, I suddenly found that almost every student in the entire class have faced with a “lacking-in childhood”. And as I was growing, I found out that more and more students have faced with this. Though we have achieved some so-called success in our study, we wanted more than anything else to be a typical little boy, chasing each other on the playground, playing hide and seek or, having water balloon fights.I do not tell this to gain sympathy, but to impress upon an important point: Today is has become a universal calamity and a gigantic catastrophy for children to suffer a non-existing childhood. Childhood has become the great casualty of modern-day living. We are the kid just lacking in the joy of childhood, maybe kids of the next generation have not been accorded the right to have joy, and the kids who are still waiting for their first sight of the world will not be allowed their freedom or even not knowing what it is like to be a kid. On our October vacation this year my mum and I went to YunNan province for a tour. There was a family from Beijing in our group, and we call the boy “yangyang”. The Grade two boy yangyang was born in HeFei but in order to get a better education, the whole famiy moved to Beijing. Compared to my primary time, his heavy pressure as well as the extra-curriculums he is studying really shocked me. To some elder people, they wish their childhood could last forever, but today children are constantly encouraged to grow up faster, as if this period known as childhood is a burdensome stage, to be endured and ushered through, as swiftly as possible.Moreover, a non-existance childhood to a kid equals to lacking in unconditional love. Psychologists have published libraries of books to detail the destructive effects of denying ones children the unconditional love that is so necessary to the healthy development of their minds and character. We can see a lot of children with no bond to others begin to raise themselves just because of the neglect. We can see a lot of children has conquered their outer heart but cannot conquer their inner heart because of the neglect. We can see a lot of children have mutiplied their possessions but reduced their morals because of the neglect. We can see a lot of children has everything on the outside from their parentsfancy clothing and fancy cars, but an aching emptiness on the inside because the neglect.That cavity in our chests, that barreness at our core, that void in our centre is the place where our heart once beat and which love once occupied.Previous ages may not have the wealth we could gain today, may not enjoy a larger space to live, may not enjoy the convinience of central-heating. But they enjoyed lovethe most precious emotion. So, theres no dark in scary evenings and theres no cold in winter days, just because love has already lit up a fire in everyones heart.Michael Jackson said, if you enter the world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with. True value of love never changes in your lifetime, then all the obstacles are just packaging. There will be times that the boss is angry with your job, there will be times that everyone around you tease you, there will be times god takes away everything of you. But you will not feel degraded, you will not be crushed, you will still triumph. How could any of them truly prevail in pulling you down for you know that you are an object worthy of love? As I have mentioned before, all the obstacles are just packaging.But the question is how to heal the children. When we know how to give out our unconditional love to our friends, then it is the time to heal the children.To all of us who feel let down by your friends, please let down the disappointment. To all of us who feel cheated by your friends, please donot cheat yourself further. To all of us who wish to push your friends away, please extand your hand to them instead. Please give our friends the gift of our unconditional lo ve, so that they too may learn how to love from us, their friends. So that love will finally be restored to a desolate and lonely world.In a world fil
