Unit 15,Learning,Lesson 2,By Guangdong Bowen International School Xiang Ya-li,Unit15,Lesson 2 Different Schools,Education systems vary from time to time and from place to place. And there are different schools for different purposes. Generally speaking there are two kinds of education: Traditional education and Alternative education.,Compare two kinds of education using the key words .,Traditional education,Alternative education,All kinds of education,Traditional education: That provided by societies before or alongside the introduction of a formal educational system.,Alternative education: A school based on a non-traditional, new, or non-standard educational philosophy. A wide range of philosophies and teaching methods are offered by alternative schools; some have strong political, scholarly, or philosophical orientations, while others are more ad-hoc assemblies of teachers and students dissatisfied with some aspect of mainstream education.,Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the two kinds of education.,Whats good for a traditional school? Whats not good for it? What about alternative education? What kind of education are you receiving? Do you like it or not? Why or why not?,You are to listen to a dialogue between Nicholas and Jack about their learning experiences. Before listening, learn the listening strategies.,Listening strategies: Prepare your own questions Predict what topics you think will be mentioned ( e.g. Learning experience ). Think of things you would like to know and write questions ( e.g. What does “alternative education mean? How different is Nicholas school from Jacks school? ),Prepare your own questions.The information card is for your reference.,Prepare at least 3 questions and then exchange your questions with your desk mate.,Fill your questions in the form. Listen to the dialogue. Try to find answers from it.,Ask your desk mate his/her questions to see if he/she can answer them.,What kinds of schools are Jacks and Nicholas? Match the extracts with Jacks and Nicholas schools.
