It should be specific

5、, descriptive and comprehensive.,4.2Introduction: Aims/purposes and rationale/justification,Aims/purposes - State the research problem, which is often referred to as the purpose or aim of the study. -Briefly describe the major issues and sub-problems to be addressed by your research.,Rationale/justi

6、fication: To place the intended study in context, and to show why the research questions and the proposed study are important. - The value of the study for the researcher: The researcher is interested in a question. How can you develop an interest?,- The value of the study for a research community:

7、This often takes the form of a theoretical justification of a study, showing that its intended to add to existing knowledge, or to challenge existing assumptions, in ways that will contribute to current theory-building or theory-testing within a community.,- The possible value of applied forms of re

8、search to others: Possible benefits to others may itself contribute to the value of your research.,Literature review: Ensures that you are not reinventing the wheel.,- Gives credits to those who have laid the groundwork for your research. - Demonstrates your knowledge of the research problem and you

9、r understanding of the theoretical and research issues involved. - Demonstrates your ability to integrate and synthesize the existing literature and your ability to critically evaluate the relevant literature.,Problems to avoid: - Lacking organization and structure - Lacking focus, unity and coheren

10、ce - Being repetitive and verbose - Failing to cite influential papers - Failing to keep up with recent developments - Failing to critically evaluate cited papers - Citing irrelevant or trivial references - Depending too much on secondary sources,Theoretical foundations,basic concepts,Methods: Very

11、important! It is an opportunity to display a capacity to organize your proposed research. It should contain sufficient information for the reader to determine whether your methodology is sound. There are typically four components for quantitative studies: design, participants/ subjects, instruments/

12、material and procedure.,- Design: Is it a questionnaire study or a laboratory experiment? What kind of design do you choose? - Subjects/participants: Who will take part in your study? How any subjects are you going to have? What kind of sampling procedure do you use?,- Instruments: What kind of meas

13、uring instruments or questionnaires do you use? Why do you choose them? Are they valid and reliable? - Procedure: How do you plan to carry out your study? What activities are involved? How long does it take? Is it necessary to consider possibilities?,Results: none at the stage of the research propos

14、al, but you should indicate what kind of data you will be collecting and what statistical procedures you will use to answer your research questions.
