Introduction
NVIDIAJetsonXavierNXbringssupercomputerperformancetotheedgeinacompactsystemonmodulesmallerthanthesizeofacreditcard.DevelopmentforJetsonXavierNXcanbedoneonaJetsonAGXXavierDeveloperKitbyapplyingthisemulationpackage.Forthepurposeofemulation,thepackagelimitsthenumberofCPUcoresandGPUTPCs,DDRbandwidth/size,andallmaximumclockfrequenciesfortheJetsonAGXXaviermoduletomatchthoseofJetsonXavierNX.
GettingStarted
Prerequisites
JetsonAGXXavierDeveloperKit
LinuxhostcomputerrunningUbuntu18.04or16.04
PerformRequiredDownloads
ToapplyJetsonXavierNXEmulationPackageyoumustfirstdownloadfromtheJetsondevelopersiteat
/embedded/downloads

ApplytheEmulationPackage
FollowtheseinstructionstoapplytheemulationpackageontopoftheJetsonAGXXavierBSP:
ExtracttheL4TDriverPackage:
$sudotarxpfTegra186_Linux_R32.2.1_aarch64.tbz2
EmulatingJetsonXavierNX
Extractthesamplerootfilesystem:
$cdLinux_for_Tegra/rootfs/
$sudotarxpf../../Tegra_Linux_Sample-Root-Filesystem_R32.2.1_aarch64.tbz2
Runapply_binaries.sh:
$cd..
$sudo./apply_binaries.sh
Copyandextracttheemulationpackagesothatitoverlaysthesamplerootfilesystem:
$sudocp../Jetson_Xavier_NX_overlay.tbz2.
$sudotarxpfJetson_Xavier_NX_overlay.tbz2
Note:Makesuretheexecutionofapply_binaries.shiscompletebeforeyouextracttheoverlaypackage.

PreparetheJetsonAGXDeveloperKit
PowerofftheJetsonAGXXavierDeveloperKitandconnectittoyourLinuxhostcomputerasfollows:
ConnectaUSBcablefromthehostcomputertotheUSB-Cportnexttothedeveloperkit’spowerbutton.
Connectkeyboard,mouse,anddisplaytothedeveloperkitforinitialconfigurationafterflashing.(Youmayskipthisstepifyouplantouseaserialconsoleconnectionforinitialconfiguration.)
PuttheJetsonAGXXavierDeveloperKitinto“ForceRecoveryMode.”
Ensurethatthedeveloperkitispoweredoff.
PressandholddowntheForceRecoverybutton.
Press,thenreleasethePowerbutton.
ReleasetheRecoverybutton.
FlashtheJetsonAGXDeveloperKit
EmulatingJetsonXavierNX
Oncetheemulationpackageisextractedasdescribedabove,youcanfindthe“jetson-xavier-as-xavier-nx.conf”flashconfigurationfileunderthe“Linux_for_Tegra”directory.
RunthefollowingcommandfromtheLinux_for_TegradirectorytoflashJetsonAGXXaviertoemulateJetsonXavierNX:
$sudo./flash.shjetson-xavier-as-xavier-nxmmcblk0p1
Whenflashingiscomplete,thedeveloperkitautomaticallyrestarts.
