thattheyweremarkingtheirterritory,acommonbehaviourinthisspecies.Botanicalexpertslaterconfirmedthat

thetreewasaspeciesofcabreuva,whichiswellknownforitsmedicalproperties.

Researchersdecidedtoplacecamera-trapsindifferentsitesatthefootofthetreetorecordfuturevisitsby

tamarinmonkeys.Therecordssurprisinglyshowedthatmanyanimalslivingintheforestvisitedit.Totally,ten

specieswereobserved.Formanyofthem,itwasthefirsttimethatbehaviorssimilartoself-medicationhadbeen

observed.Moresurprisingly,onespeciesspreadresinoneachothefsfurinpairs.Ingeneral,thespeciesseemedto

specificallyvisitthetreetoacquiretheresinandseeminglybenefitfromit,eitherhealingtheirwoundsorfighting
