allowyoutowritemorewordsandtowritethemmorequickly,withouttherestraintofhavingto

altereverythingbyhandandthenrewrite.

Everysooften,asareviewer,onestumbleswithasinkingheartacrossoneoftheseenormous

ramblingaffairs,which,howeverassiduoustheattentionsofitseditor,betraysitsoriginasa

AnywaythebubbleinAmericansharepricesinthe1990shasledsomeacademicstoaskifthe

marketscanbereliedupontothinkrationallyaboutanything,includingdividends.Butinthereal

worldthereremainsoneoverwhelmingreasonwhydividendpolicyisnotirrelevant:tax.Theway

dividendsaretaxedcanhavewide-rangingconsequencesforhowafirmisrun.Inparticular,itcan

Asimilarstudyhasnotbeendoneinmen,leavingopenthequestionofwhether

Itnowappears,however,thatestrogenmightsetthestagefordepressionindirectlyby

primingthebody'sstressresponse.Duringstressfultimes,theadrenalglands—whichsitontop

ofthekidneysandarecontrolledbythepituitaryglandinthebrain—secretehigherlevelsofa

hormonecalledcortisol,whichincreasestheactivityofthebody'smetabolicandimmunesystems,
