第一课:Never,NeverGiveUp

永不放弃

Weoftenhearpeoplesay,“Nevergiveup."Thesecanbeencouragingwords

andwordsofdetermination.Apersonwhobelievesinthemwillkeeptryingtoreach

hisgoalnomatterhowmanytimeshefails.Inmyopinion,thequalityof

determinationtosucceedisanimportantonetohave.Therefore,Ibelievethat

weshouldnevergiveup.

Onereasonisthatifwegiveuptooeasily,wewillrarelyachieveanything.

Itisnotunusualforustofailinourfirstattemptatsomethingnew,soweshould

notfeeldiscouragedandshouldtryagain.Besides,ifwealwaysgiveupwhenwe

fail,wewillnotbeabletodevelopnewskillsandgrowaspeople.Anotherreason

weshouldnevergiveupisthatwecanlearnfromourmistakesonlyifwemake

aneweffort.Ifwedonottryagain,thelessonwehavelearnediswasted.Finally,

weshouldnevergiveupbecauseasweworktoreachourgoals,wedevelopconfidence,

andthisconfidencecanhelpussucceedinotherareasofourlives.Ifwenever

challengeourselves,wewillbegintodoubtourabilities.

Inshort,itisimportantthatwedonotgiveupwhenworkingforourgoals.

Whetherwesucceedintheendornot,wewilllearnsomething,andwhatwelearn

第二课:LearningaboutLife

学习人生

•Aswegrow,welearnmanythingsaboutlife.Someoftheselessons

areeasyandsomearedifficult.Whatisthebestwaytolearnthem?Some

believethattheycanlearnbestbylisteningtotheadviceofothers,while

somepeoplebelievethatitisbettertolearnthroughpersonalexperience.

Bothmethodshavetheiradvantages.

在成长过程中,我们会学到生活中的许多事情。其中有些教训很简单,而有

些却很困难。什么是获取教训最好的方法?有些人认为,他们可以通过听取别人的

建议而获得最好的学习效果,而有些人却认为最好是通过亲身体验来学习。这两种

方法各有优点。

benefitoflearningfromothers?mistakesandarethusbeingabletoavoid

themourselves.Wecantakeadvantageoftheexperienceandwisdomofour

friendsandfamily.Thiswillhelpustomakebetterdecisionsandavoid

costlyerrors.Furthermore,thepeoplewhoknowuswellcanadviseus

effectivelybecausetheyunderstandourstrengthsandweaknesses.Atthe

sametime,theyaresometimesabletoseesituationsmoreobjectivelythan

weare.

学习,避免再犯相同的错误。我们还可以利用家人和朋友的经验或智慧来帮助我们

me.Justaswecanlearnfromhistory,wecanlearnfromthepastactions

ofthoseclosetous.

若要我从这两种学习人生的方法中选一个,我仍然会选择前者,也就是从别

人的建议中学习。因为我认为,应该利用所有可获得的资源,而家人与朋友的经验

就是宝贵的资源。例如,如果我初次要准备自己出国旅行,那么有类似出国旅行经

验的人所提供的建议对我就很有帮助。正如我们能从历史中学习一样,我们也能从

周围的人的经验中学习。

但这不表示我就不会亲身去体验。然而,这确实意味着我除了会体验新的经验,同

时还要听取家人与朋友提供的忠告,这样才能获得更大的益处。

friends.Allofthesemethodsoflearninghavetheiradvantages,buttheonethat

ismosteffectiveformeistolearnbydoing.

OnereasonIprefertolearnbydoingisbecauseIbelievethatexperience

isthebestteacher.KnowledgethatIgainthroughexperienceistheknowledgethat

Irememberbest.Asecondreasonisthatpracticalknowledgeisoftenmoreuseful

thantheoreticalknowledgewhendealingwithproblemsineverydaylife.Third,

Icanlearnfromtheprocessitself.EvenwhenImakemistakes,Icanlearn

somethingfromthem.Finally,inthisway-learningbydoingallowsmetomake

myowndiscoveries.

Inconclusion,learningthroughexperienceisthebestmethodforme

becauseIcanacquirepracticalknowledgeandremembermylessonswell.Inddition,

theknowledgeIgainisnotonlymeaningful,butalsowiderthanwhatIcanget

fromothermethodsoflearning.Therefore,Iwillcontinuetotrytolearnasmuch

aspossiblebydoingthingsmyself.

第四课:ChoosingFriends

选择朋友

Somepeopleprefertomakefriendswithpeoplewhoareverylikethem;others

preferfriendswhoareverydifferent.Eachofthetwokindsoffriendshiphas

somethingbetterthantheother.Ifamanchoosesafriendsimilartohimself,

theywillsharemanycommoninterests.Theyalsohavesimilargoals(目标)inlife.

Thismeansthattheywillbeabletohelpandencourageeachothertomaketheir

goalscometrue.Moreover,twopeoplewhoareverysimilarwillfeelhappywith

eachotherandmayunderstandeachother'sfeelingsbetter.Sotheirfriendship

maybedeeperandlastlonger.

Ontheotherhand,itisOKtomakefriendswithsomeonewhoisverydifferent

fromyou.Inthiskindoffriendship,thetwopeoplecomplement(补充)eachother.

Ifoneisweak,theotherisstrong.Whiletwopeoplewithsimilargoalsmaycompete

(竞争)witheachother,thosewhowantdifferentthingscanalwayshelpeachother.

Withdifferentinterests,theycanleteachotherknownewexperiencesandsowiden

theirknowledge.

Thesedaysweoftentalkabouttheimportanceofournaturalresources.In

manycountriestheyaredisappearingatarapidrateandenvironmentalistsare

urgingpeopleeverywheretoprotecttheirair,water,forests,wildlife,andso

on.Itisdifficulttochoosejustonenaturalresourcetosave,butinmyopinion,

savingtheforestsshouldbethetoppriority.

Firstofall,forestshelptopreserveothernaturalresourcessuchaswater,

air,andanimals.Withoutforests,thelandcannotholdwateraswell.Thismeans

thatinaheavyrainhillsideswillcollapse,causinggreatdamage.Notonlythat,

butwithouttheprotectionoftrees,thenutrient-richtopsoilwillbewashedaway

andnothingwillbeabletogrowontheland.Treesalsohelptocleantheair

byabsorbingcarbondioxideandproducingoxygen.And,ofcourse,forestsarethe

naturalhabitatofmanywildanimals.Withoutthem,theseanimalswillnotbeable

tosurvive.Anotherreasontopreserveourforestsisthatlargenumbersoftrees

canhelptomitigatethegreenhouseeffectbyabsorbingsolarradiation.And

finally,forestsareaplacewherepeoplecangetclosetonature,andifthey

learntolovenature,theywillwanttopreservealltheearth?snaturalresources.

Alloftheearth'snaturalresourcesareimportant,andweshouldallwork

tosavethem.ThereasonthatIchoosetheforestsasmostimportantisbecause

theyhelpusinsomanyways.Bysavingtheforests,Ibelievewecansavethe

planet.

第六课:Thebestwayofreducingstress

Asamatteroffact,nowadaysthespeedofdevelopmentinourcountryisgetting

fasterandfaster.Thefast-pacedlifedoesbringusgreatpressure.Stressis

aninevitablepartinournormallife.Viewsonhowtoreducestressvaryfrom

persontoperson.AsfarasIamconcerned,doingsportsisthebestwaytoreduce

thestress.

Foronething,whenyougetthestress,itmeansthatyourbodyistiredand

yourbrainisnolongersober.Inthatcaseplayingsportsgivesyounotonlygood

physicalhealthbutalsosobermind.Thephysicalexercise,suchasagoodjog

oragameoftennis,canmakeyoukeeppeacefulmind.Ifthestresscomesfrom

work,youcantakepartinsomesportslikebasketballorvolleyball.Throughthe

teamsports,youcanenjoythehappinessandjoywithyourcolleagues,whichmakes

yourstressreleased.Ifyouarealwaysdoingsomeindoorwork,climbingorjogging

graduatedfromhighschool.Here,inZhejiangUniversity,noonewouldpushyou

tostudyexceptyourself.Howmuchyoulearnonlydependsonyourattitude.To

behonest,IamnotquitesatisfiedwiththeG.P.A.Igotinthelastsemester,

forIrealizedthatIamnotsodiligentasIhadimagined.Therefore,inthis

newsemester,Iwillpushmyselfharder.Iwillgetupearliertogetafront-row

seat.Inmyfreetime,IwillspendmoretimeinthelibrarytoreadsomeEnglish

biologicaldocuments.Andaboveall,Ioughttostudyallmybasicsubjectswell

andgetabetterG.P.A..

AsforEnglishlearning,IthinkIhaveanadvantageinwritingandreading

skillswhilemylisteningandspeakingskillsarenotsogood.Sointhissemester,

Iwilltrytobecomemoreoutgoing,speakmoreandpracticemore,inordertoget

myselfpreparedfortheoverseastudyinginthefuture.

一个好舍友

Atfirstglanceitseemsverydifficultforustodefinewhataretheimportant

qualitiesofagoodroommate.However,afterseriousconsiderationswecansee

thatundermostcircumstances,agoodroommateshouldatleasthavethefollowing

threequalities.

Firstofall,agoodroommateshouldbeopenandwillingtocommunicate.There

arealwaysissuesregardingrent,bills,foodandhouseholdduties,guests,

privacy,noises,sharingandborrowing,tonameafew,andinterestsandhobbies

ofroommatesarenotalwaystheidentical.Therewillalwaysbeconflictsamong

roommates.Whenproblemsorconflictsarise,roommatesmustopenlydiscussthe

issueandquicklyreachasolutiontotheproblem.Inaddition,asuccessful

roommatesituationrequiresgoodcommunication.Taketimetotalkfrequentlyto

eachother;chattingwitheachotherhelpskeepupthebasicrelationshipwhich

canprovidetheunderpinningforaharmoniousrelationship.Thereforeopenand

willingtocommunicateisthefirstimportantqualityofagoodroommate.

Secondly,animportantqualityofagoodroommateisconsiderateandunderstanding.

Agoodroommateunderstandswhatyouneed;Heisagoodfriendandagoodlistener,

andofferyouhelpwhenyouneedit.Ofcourse,youshouldnotdependonyour

roommatetosatisfyallyoursocialneeds.Makeotherfriendsandgetinvolved

inactivitiesisalsoimportant,andcouldleavemoreprivatetimeforyour

roommate.

well-qualifiedteacher.However,Itendtolearnusingthesecondway.

Foronething,theteacherhasawideknowledgeandknowswhattoteach,what

youhavetolearn,shecanalsoprovideyousomeusefuladvicetolearnbetter.

Whileyouarelearning,youcanasksomequestionstofindoutanythingyoumissed

outsothatyoucanunderstandthelessonsmoredeeply.Ifyouhaveanewidea,

youcanshareitwithyourteacherandshewilltellyouhowtomakeitcometrue.
