ThepathtoDawsonwascoveredwiththirtyfeetofwetsnowthatcouldfallwithoutwarming.An
avalanche(雪崩)onceclosedthepath,killing63people.FormanywhomadeittoDawson,however,
therewardswereworththedifficulttrip.Ofthefirst20,000peoplewhodugforgold,4,000gotrich.
About100ofthesestayedrichmenfortherestoftheirlives.
Butnomatterhowrichtheywere,Dawsonwasnevercomfortable.Necessitieslikefoodandwood
