Thefirstexperimentfoundthatcreativepeopleweremoreengagedintheirthoughts
whentheywereleftalonewithoutdistractions,suchascellphonesandtheInternet.
“Creativepeopleratedthemselvesasbeinglessbored,evenoverthose10minutes.Theyalso
spokemorewordsoverall,whichindicatedthattheirthoughtsweremorelikelytomove
freely,“saidAndrews-Hanna.
Forthesecondexperiment,over2,600adultsansweredquestionsthroughasmartphone
appcalledMindWindow,developedbyAndrews-HannaandhergraduatestudentEric
Andrews.Participantswhoself-identifiedasbeingcreativereportedbeinglessboredduring
theidletime.
TheresearchersarecontinuingthislineofworkusingtheirMindWindowapp.Theyencourage
peopletodownloadandusetheapptohelpscientistsunderstandhowpeopleacrosstheworld
