AcademicSkillsII

Description

ThisAcademicSkillsProgram(ASP)isdesignedtoprovidebothacomprehensiveandcritical

introductiontoAustralianacademicculture.Thecourseisdividedinto60hoursthatstretchoversemesters5and6.

Thiscoursewillteachstudentshowtobeanindependentlearner,workinateam,prepareforadebate,searchforusefuljournalarticles.Inaddition,studentshowtoreferencecorrectlyandavoidplagiarism,takenotesduringlectures,conductresearch,usecriticalthinkingskills,andunderstandjournalarticleswritteninEnglish.

Importantly,thiscoursewillhelpstudentsintegrateintoacademicculture.Overall,theskillstaughtinthiscoursewillallowstudentstoexpresstheirownvoicesinaformalacademicmanner.

Pre-requisites

ThestudentsshouldfinishAcademicSkillsIandachieveaboutIELTS6.0

IntendedLearningOutcomes

UponcompletionoftheAcademicSkillsProgram(ASP),studentswillbeableto:

•UnderstandtheexpectationsofAustralianacademiawithinitsculturalcontexts

•Developtheskillsneededtobecomeeffectivelearnersatuniversity,bothnationallyandinternationally.

•Demonstratetheconceptandvalueofaclear,logical,andsoundargument-bothinwritingandspeaking

•Evaluatecritically,analyseandproduceacademicreports

•Communicateoralandwrittenargumentsandideaseffectivelyandarticulately.

•Conductresearchinaconventionalandefficientmanner,andunderstandtheconceptofplagiarism
