Shewasallaloneinabigemptyhouse.Severaldaysago,littleMarywastakentoheruncle-Mr.ArchibaldCraven.Mr.Cravenwasabad-temperedmanandhadnofriends.Helivedinabiglonelyoldhouse.There’sabigparkroundthehouse,andallkindsofgardens.Inheruncle’shome,alittlegirlnamedMarthaasherservanttohelpher.Marthawasanenthusiasmandhelpfulgirl.TheservantgirlhasalittlebrotherwhonamedDickon.Brotherandsisteraresosimpleandhonest.TheirwarmthmadeMaryfellrelaxandhappy.Gradually,Maryhasmadealittlechange.Oneday,fromMartha,sheheardastory.Mr.Cravenmarriedasweet,prettygirl,andhelovedherverydeeply.Thegirlhadabiggarden.Thereweremanyrosesinit.Whenshediedsosuddenly,Mr.Cravenlockeditandburiedthekey.Nobodycangetinit.So,it’sasecretgarden.Oneday,shetookawalkintheground,shefoundthekeywonderfully.SheenteredthegardensecretlyandtookcareofitwithDickon.Inthenextfewdays,Maryspentalmostallhertimeinthegarden.Thefreshairmadeherhungry,andshewasbecomingstronger.Onenight,Maryheardthecryingclearly.Sosherunouttofindwhowascryinginthishouse.Inaexquisitebedroom,shefoundasicklyboy-Colin.HewasMr.Craven’sson.MarythoughtthatColinwasagoodboy.SosherequestedColintothesecretgarden.Inthisdiscardgarden,Mary,ColinandDickonhadgoodtime.Theyhelpedthegardencomealiveagain.What’smore,sunshine,freshair,flowersandgrassesmadeColinhealthy.Inthesecretgarden,wheretheroseswereattheirbest,andthebutterflieswereflyingfromtoflowerinthesummersunshine,hisheadheldhighandasmileonhislips,walkyoungColin.
