Whengrandmaenteredcollege,shewasintheageofprime,buteducationwasn’t.ItwasanagewhenChinahadaliteracyofmerelyover50percent;itwasanagewhenoneoutofeightgotenrolledbyauniversityorcollege;itwasanagewheneventhetop-classuniversitiesinChinawerenotrecognizedbytheworld.Itwaswiththeaspirationofchangingeducationforthebetterthatmygrandmabecameateacher,inpursuitofteachingstudentsathomeandlearningmoreabouttheabroad.

Whenmymothercrossedthethresholdofhighereducationintocollege,shewase*periencingthetidesoftheReformandOpening-up.ItwasanagewhenChinawasreadytoembracetheworld.WiththedemandforEnglishtalentsstayinghigh,shebroughthertalentstothefieldofinternationaltrade,withthehopeofbroadeningherhorizonandtellingherinternationalclientsaChinesestory.

ItwasthemomentwhenIrealizedthattherehasbeensomethingunchangedinthenewera:thatisalwaysequippingourselveswiththenewideasandkeepinpacewiththetimewhichneverwaits.OnlybybearingthisvirtueinourmindsthathasinheritedbytheChinesepeoplefor5,000years,canwegainboththeconfidenceandthecompetenceintellingagoodChinesestorytoall.
