VicenteCalveAndres,aValenciawriter,believedthatauthorMigueldeCervantes
shouldbehonored.Originally,thecelebrationwasonCervantesbirthday,7October,
butwaslaterchangedtohisdeathdayon23April.Itwasonlyin1995thattheUNESCO
officiallydeclared23AprilasthedatetocelebrateWorldBookDay.Today,WorldBook
Dayhasgrownintoahugelysuccessfulannualcelebrationofbooksandreading.
Thedateisalsothedeathorbirthanniversaryofoutstandingauthorsincluding
WilliamShakespeare,WilliamWordsworth,IncaGraciasdelaVega,RobertBridges
