安顺学院2018届本科毕业论文(设计) 171Introduction1.1AnintroductiontoEmilyDickinsonEmilyDickinson(May15thDecember10,1830-1886),thelegendarypoetintheUnitedStates,isafamouswomanpoetinthehistoryofAmericanLiteratureinnineteenthCentury.ShewasapioneeroftheBritishandAmericanImagistPoetryintwentiethCentury.Emilywasborninalawyer'sfamily,andthelifeofateenagerwasmonotonousfortheregularreligiouseducation.Fromthetwenty-fiveyearoldlovesetbacksbegantonolongersocial,likeaBuddhistmonkdoesnotgooutathome,inthelonelydaysofpoetrytoexpresstheirfeelingsafterthirtyyears,leavingonethousand700poems;sheonlypublishedsevenpoems,therestarepublishedbeforeshedied,andwasknowntofamegreat.Dickinson'spoemsmainlywriteaboutlife,nature,life,faith,friendshipandlove.Graceful,concisestyle,depictingtherealintentionoffresh,subtle,deepthoughts,strongcohesion,fulloforiginality.ThroughtheanalysisofDickinsonhimselfandhispoetry,wecanseethatDickinson'sworksarethebestinterpretationofherloveandrespectfornature,loveandlife,ratherthancontemptorfearofnature,loveandlife.Dickinsonlivedinseclusionandlonely,nevermarried,butleftaveryrichcollectionofpoetry.Herlegendarylifeexperiencehasbeenattractingmanyreadersandwriters,althoughlonelylifebutherpoetryincontentisrichandcolorful,energetic,thehardinlifedidnothinderherhearttolove;donotbelieveinreligiouspoemsoftenappeartracesofreligion.Inherworks,therearequiteanumberofpoemsdepictingdeathandnegativethemes.Inthetraditionalsense,Dickinsonisregardedasawomanwhohasanegativeattitudetowardslife.EmilyDickinson’sfamilybackground.DickinsonwasborninatraditionalChristianfamilyinNewEnglandin1830.AllofherfamilywasdevoutChristians,andtheirideaswereveryconservative.Shewascarefreeinherchildhood,butshedidn'tgetfathersandmaternallove.Herfather,aPuritan,usedtobealawyerandparticipateinpoliticalactivitiesinCalvincommunity,whichhadgreatinfluenceonherdaughter.Emily'sfatherisverystrictandstrictwithEmily.Emilyrespectshisfatherontheonehandandfearshisfatherontheotherhand,resultinginhisfather'sloveisveryfew.HigginsonisateacherofEmilyisveryimportantintheprocessofpoetrycreation,thereisalettertoEmilytowritetheletter,Dickinsonmentioneduntilfifteenyearsbeforeshelearnedtowatch,becausemyfatherthoughthadtaughther,butinfactheisnottaught,butEmilydidnotdaretoaskotherpeople.Dickinson'smother,EmilyNorcrossDickinson,isanidealwomaninthetraditionalsenseofnineteenthCentury.DevoutChristiansareloyaltotheirhusbands.TherelationshipbetweentheparentsofDickinsonveryharmoniousasAdamandEve:inthebackgroundofwomen'sstatusunderthemaleaccessory,themotherofDickinsonbytheinfluenceoftheconceptofperformancewasgentleandtame,butDickinsonisagreewithhermother'sthoughts,shefeltthatwomenandmenareequal.Womenshouldbeindependentratherthanrelyonmen.Theyshouldnotrelyontheirhusbandsorevensons,andtheyshouldlivetheirownlives.Soshedespisedhermotheranddidn'tadmithermother'sexistence:"I'veneverhadamotherbefore,andIthinkmothershouldbesomeonewhocanrunawaywhenyouareintrouble."Soevenintheunfortunatedaysofthefutureshedidnotgotohermother.Emilydoesn'thaveparents,butEmilyisnotdepressed.Instead,theyturnthepassionandpassionofwirelesstoloveandpassionfornature.Inhereyes,natureis"thegentlestmother".Naturecanbringcomforttoitself,andalsoenableherselftotalkwithhersoul,whichisabridgeofcommunication.Innature,shecanseethebeautifulsceneryandseasonalchangesinnature,animalsandplantsareveryrich,shefeltliketheplantsandanimalsofnature'sownmothercanletyourelyon,mothernatureisthemostfair,mothernatureisthesameforallchildren,andEmilythefamilyisnotfair.InDickinson'syouth,therearetwopeoplehavehadaninfluenceonherlife,oneisPresidentDonaldHumphreyofthetopliberalartscollegesinAmherstCollege(AmherstCollege),theotheroneisservingherfatherinLawFirm:lawyerJayNewtonyoungming.Theyhelpedalotinherlearning,especiallyNewtonofteninstructedhertoreadwhatbooksandhowtoread,andinspiredhertounderstandthebeautyofharmonyandintegrityinnature.NewtonoftensentforherspeakaboutCalvin'sreligiousthought,whichsheacceptedtheCalvinSchoolofthoughtandinnerbeautyandnatureabouttheconceptofthecoldworld.Theseideasbecamethecreedofherlifeandwerelatervividlyreflectedinallherpoems.ThefirsttimeCharlesWordsworthwasthemostimportantreasonshenevermarried,dickinson'sfirstlovewasafavorite.In1854,Emily'sfathercametoworkinWashingtonforwork,andEmilycametoWashingtonwithherfamily.InWashington,d.c.,lifeisveryrich,Emilyhadmanynewfriendsthere,includinga17-yearoldEmilywasknowwozandlover,buthehadcomehome,thisisalsothecauseofEmilytragedy.Fromareferencepointofview,EmilyandWoziwo'slifeisaboutthreetimes,andtherestofthetimeiswrittencommunication.TimeandspacebarriersdidnotstopEmily'slove.Theyloveeachotherandfindevidenceoftheirloveindickinson'spoemsandletters."Wadsworthinspiredherpoetry,"Johnsonsaid.Butwardfamilyrealityandwardinwalterisapastor'sidentity,theyhavenowaytotogether,dickinsonfortheirsacrificeattheexpenseofhisownsuffering,sheleftthewadsworth,becauseEmilydickinsongreatselflessloveandpainfulrealitylethislovenowheretovent,letherthroughthisformofthevalueofpoemstoexpressherlovewords.Thesecondloverisjudgingthelovebetweenrhodes,rhodesandEmily.Rhodeswasdickinson'smiddle-agedunmarriedhusband,andrhodeswasveryimportantinthelatterpartofEmily'slife.Dickinson'sassessmentofrhodesreallybeganin1877withtwoacquaintancesofEmily'sfather,butrhodes'swifewasnotdead.Althoughdickinsonwas50,shecouldstillwriteletterslikeagirlfromthejudge'sexpressionofherpurelovedickinson.Perhapsbecauseofyourpastfailuresandjudgethegreatimageofherheart,dickinsonwantedtobeapartoflife,sosheaskedthejudgeexpressedintheideaofmarriagetoguide,butthejudgehasnotmadeanyresponsethatEmilydickinsonwasverydisappointed.Afewyearslater,whenthejudgeaskedhertomarryhim,dickinsonrefusedthejudge.Shesaidshecouldnotexpressherjoybecause"thecraziestwordintheirlanguageis".Ofcourse,thisstrangeexpressioncannotbeacceptedbyordinarypeople.Heruniqueexpressionisthatshelikestodistanceherselffromrespect.Hertruelovecouldonlybefoundinherimagination.Emily'slifejourneyrugged,lackofaffectionletherputallhisloveinnature,thelongingforlovethereisdemandandwouldn'tlethimhaverichemotionalcolors,Christianonlyoneselfdonothaveanyreligiousbeliefs,thisalsolethismindisfullofcontradictions.TheemotionalexperienceofthesecolumnsgaveEmilyauniqueperspectiveonpoetry.1.2AboutCangyangJiacuoCangyangJiacuo(1683-1706),thesixthDalaiLama,aMonpa,thefamousTibethistoricalfigures.1683(TibetanwaterpigKangxitwenty-twoyears)wasborninsouthernTibet,menyunullahmountainYuSongLinCunareawujangaserffamily,fatherZahiTenzing,motherTsWanRam.ThefamilyfromgenerationtogenerationintheNyingmasectofBuddhism(HuangJiao).In1697bythethenTibetRegentWendibaSanjungatorecognizedasthereincarnationofDalaiV,sanggyaiGyatsopresidedoverthesameyearinmulberryunderenthronementceremonyheldinPotalaPalace.In1706wasspentescorting,passedaway.Becauseofthecomplexityofthecruelpoliticalstruggle,thecracksinthesurvivalofCangyangjiacuoisrichinemotion,andwritingpoetryintoemotionalcatharsismethodcangyangjiacuo.Hewasatalented,eloquentTibetanpoet,wrotemanypoems.ThemostclassicLhasaTibetanwoodcut"Cangyangjiacuolovesong",beautifulwords,simpleandvivid,acollectionofmorethan60'spoem,hasnowbeentranslatedinto20languages,almostspreadallovertheworld,hispoetryhascrossedtheage,culture,ethnicity,hasbecomeaverypreciousculturalheritage.Themostfamousis"IfeelsentimentallossandfearintotheVatican,don'tfight.WorldlyAndhraqueen,notnegativeBuddhanotqingChina.CangyangGyatso(1683-1708),thesixthDalaiLamaisnotonlyaveryhistoricfigureinTibet'spoliticalhistoryandreligioushistory,butalsoagreatlovepoempoetworthyofstudy.Asareligiousleader,ithasbecomeagreatpoetforthecreationoflovepoetry,integratingreligionwithliteratureandmakingadialoguebetweenlovereligions.Thecomplexpoliticalsituationcreatedbythepoet's.InordertoensurethestabilityandexpansionofTibetformthePotalaPalacerepairprojectsmoothly,theSanjayGiaZoVDalaidiedofhiddenforfifteenyears,afterTanogatoSanjayGiaZowasregardedasthereincarnationofDalaiV,fifteenyearoldTanogatowasforcedtodrophairintotheDalaiLamaVIordained.However,inthepastfifteenyearsyouarethebirthplaceoftheenveloperegionintheSouthsectorofTibet(orred)istheNyingmaBuddhism,thisCanondoesnotprohibitmonksmarried,nomadicpopularlovefreedom,butDalaibelongstotheGelugSect(oryellowsect)isstrictlyprohibitedtomarry,Buddhistmonksclosewomen.SanjayGiaZoTanogatoofstrictdiscipline,andTanogatoasTibetkingbutdidnothaveanyrealpower,wasforcedtoaccepttheideologicalcontrol,forcedincome,whichbringstheGreatDepressiontoTanogato'sthoughtandbehavior,thecontradictionbetweenthetremendouspressureofhebeganintheestimationoftheresponsibilitytostartbreakingtaboos,heleftPotalaPalace,LhasaCityindulgenceand,adifferentgirlisdating,thenhisresistancetohispoliticalenemiesdonotabidebyclearrulesisused,finallylethimbecomethepoliticalstruggleofsacrifice,generationoflovemonkthisfall,buthislovepoemshavebeenhandeddown,sungforgenerations.TibetanBuddhistmonktoitsevaluation:"DalaiVItotheworldforthelaityseesvastspiritualworldbornlaw,hispoemsandsongstopurifythegenerationsofthesoul.HeletthelaityfeelsDharmaisnothighandcan’tusethemostsincerecompassion,hispersonalindependenceofconductletusreceivedareallesson!"1.3ThewritingmeaningandpurposeofthethesisLoveisanoldtopic.Loveisaboutthespiritofhumanbeings.Itisoneofthemostbeautifulemotionsofhumanbeings.Inthepastandpresent,countlesspeopleyearnforit,chasingandsinging.Poetryistheemotionexpressionoflovebypeople.EmilyDickinsonisoneoftherenownedfemalepoetintheliteraryhistoryoftheUnitedStatesinnineteenthCentury,andbecauseofhergreatinfluenceonmodernpoetry,knownasthepioneeroftheUnitedStatesintwentiethCenturyofnewpoetry.Thelovedescriptioninherpoemsiswidelyknown.CangyangJiacuoisoneofthemostfamouspoetsinChinainsixteenthCentury,theTibetan.Hispoemsandsongsaretopurifythegenerationsofthehumanmind,andtheyhavegonebeyondnationalborders,timeandspace,becomingavaluableculturalheritage.Hispoemshavenowbeentranslatedinto20languages,almostspreadallovertheworld.Thetwogreatpoetswroteemotionsintopoemsindifferenthistoricalperiodsandlivingbackgrounds.Theyreflectednotonlythemainstreamofideologyandcultureatthattime,butalsotheadvancedwritingstyleoftheauthor.Thisthesis,basedonEmilyDickinsonandCangyangJiacuo'slifeandworks,triestomakeacomparativestudyoftwooutstandingpoetslovepoetrybyanalyzingthesimilaritiesanddifferencesoftheirlovethemesandthoughtstofurtherrevealthereasons.1.4GeneralframeworkofthethesisThisthesisconsistsoffivechapters.Thefirstchapterisabriefintroduceofthestudy:thewritingmeaningandpurposeofthethesis.Thesecondchapterisliteraturereview,includingrelatedstudyonEmilyDickinsonandrelatedstudyonCangyangJiacuo.ThethirdchapterismainlyaboutacomparativestudyonthelovepoemsofEmilyDickisionandCangyangJiacuo.Chapterfour,itisdevotedtotheresearchthereasonsforthesimilaritiesanddifferencesbetweenthetwopoets’lovepoems.Thelastwillbetheconclusion,whichsummarizesthemainfindingsofthisstudy.2Literaturereview2.1RelatedstudyonEmilyDickinsonEmilyDickinson,averyimportantfigureintheUnitedStates,occupiesanimportantpositioninthehistoryofpoetry.Dickinson’sworksareoftenanalyzedbyscholarsandpeoplefromsuchthemes:loveofnature,loveoflife,andthepassionoflove.LoveofnatureisoneofthecommonthemesreflectedinDickinson’spoetrycreation.Inthepoem,shedefinednature:the"natural",isinthescenewesee,themountains/squirrels,wildbees,shadow/nature,evenistheparadise,"nature"iswhatwehear,theseaofnoise,thunder-/bobolinkscall,thenatural.Thatiseven,andtheacoustic/"natural",soweknowwecannotexplain-/-/-/conveyherhonestourinabilitytodefinethenatureofwisdomintothefamiliar,suchasmountain,animal,insect,seaetc.."Heaven"representsbeautyandsanctity,andEmilyusesthewordheaventodescribenatureasareflectionofDickinson'sloveandreverencefornature.ThethingsthatEmilyoftenpraisesinthepoetryofnaturecanbebasicallyclassifiedastwo:seasonalbeautyandfloraandfauna.SpringisDickinson'sfavoriteseasoninthefourseasons,andthepoem'sdescriptionofspringisthebestexpressionofherloveforthefourseasons.Inspring,shebrokedownthedisappointmentofdepression,andletherrealizethecolorfulworld.Sheoncewroteinthepoem:"Icanbecompletelyindifferenttomeetspring--Irememberoldfeelings--/lingering,mixed,rush,abeautifulexcuse:"Dickinsonalsooftendepictedthesunriseandsunset,thenaturalphenomenonofrisingandfallingmonthcanalwaysinspireEmilyendlessartistictalentandimaginationthespacetoexpressherthoughtsonlife.Afterthesuncomesout,ithasthepowerto"changethefaceoftheworld".Sunriseandsunsetarejustlikehumanlife.Shetakesherselfasapartofnature.Theemergenceofthesunchangestheearth.Thesunisnewandfullofinfinitepassion.Birdsoftenappearinherpoetry,buttheyarenotlimitedtoageneralconcept."Robinsaremycriteriaforjudgingmusic","Cuckoo-theruleofsummer"and"arotatingwheel-thehummingbird"arepowerfulevidence.Inaddition,herlovealsoextendstotheordinarypeoplethinkofhorrorandevennausea,flies,mice,snakes,bats,spiders,andthespiderscanbeusedastherepresentativeofcampinthepoem.Second,thepassionforlove.Formostofherlife,Emilylivedaloneinseclusion,andtheimpressionofatalentedpoetesswhohadtheimpressionofaninflexibleelement.Whonevertouchedherpoetrywillfeelherlovepoemsshouldbedepressed,becauseherloveisfullofupsanddowns,butinfactherlovepoemsarefullofpassion,herpoem"StormyNight"canshowherwarm,sincerelove."Stormynightstormynight,ifIandyou!/Together,storms/is/luxury/joy!-/Heartwind,incapableofaction,hasbeenintheharbor-/compass,don't,don'thaveto//chart!BoatingintheGardenofEden--//ah,thesea!IwishIcould,tonight/parkedinyourwaters!Inthefirststanzaofsymbolbycrazystormynightisnotinthetraditionalsense,butitstandsforlovecrazypeople.Theseaisasymboloflove,andtheharboriswhatEmilywants.Ifthereisloveintheheart,thereisnoneedto"compass"and"chart"forsailingonthesea.Inthethirdverseofthepoem,thepoetdescribedthatshefinallyarrivedintheharborandimpliedthecombinationwithherlover,whichalsoindirectlyrepeatstheword"sexualdesire".Thisboldandundisguiseddescriptionofloveisnotwrittenbeforeotherpoets.Dickinsonwasunmarriedallhislife,butshehadbeenlongingformarriageandreflectedinherpoetry.Inthepoem"Iwillbeawifeatdawn,"thetransformationfrom"Maiden"to"bride"atmidnightisdescribedasajoyfulsceneand"angelsarebusyinthehall"(poetry461).Herdesireformarriagemightexplainheroftenwearingawhitedressthatsymbolizesherweddingdress.Inpoetry376,sheadmitsthatasawife,shewillfeelverysafe.Sowecanseethatpoetsdonotexcludemarriagebutareeagerformarriage.Third,poetry(712)inthispoem,thepoetof"death"and"eternallife"personification,andthepoethimself,asanaivegirl,bythedeathof"gentlemen"courtesyandsomovedbyhercompanion,"eternallife"thesymbolofthehearse"death"ofthehorsecar.Thesecondsectionofthepoemdoesnotonlydescribetheenvironmentofterrorbutaquietandpeacefulatmosphere.Inthethirdstanza,threepeoplepassedthesymbolofchildhood;adultschoolsymbolizesthefieldsandsymbolizesthetwilightsunset.Thisjourneyislikealoveoflife.Theprocessofhumanlife,andinthefinalpoetthatdeathwillleadpeopletoeternallife.Althoughthepoemisnot"love","nature"and"life"liketheword,butthepoet'sloveforlifeanddeathassheshowsbetweenthelines,itisadate.Inhispaper,XiaoZhifangsaid,"thetoneofthepoemispleasing,sothepassengersfeelveryrelaxed.ForDickinson,deathisjustanotherwayofbeing,soit'snotsomethingthatismelancholy.Shedidnotdescribedeathasa't
