Whileitiseasytoperceivewhenstudentsareinterested,bored,ordistracted,itissometimesmuchhardertodistinguishwhenstudentsaretroubled.Studentswhoareangry,afraid,orexperiencinganxietymayhavetheirarmscrossedinfrontoftheirchestsandtheirlegsclosedorcrossed,liketheyareguardingtheirbodies.Studentswhoaresadorworriedwillnearlyalwayswearafrown.Theymayalsohidetheirfacesintheirhandsliketheyareembarrassedorashamed.Somestudentsactthiswaymerelybecausetheyareafraidofbeingcalledonbytheteacher.However,ifastudentdoesnotbothertobrushherhairandhereyesareredfromweeping,thenIcaninferthattherearedeeperissuesatwork.Itcouldbethatsheishavingseriousconflictswithotherstudentsorathome.Whateveritis,IknowIneedtoinquireandassesswhatisgoingon.
