(1870~1941),followsabandofWesternoutlawsrobbingatrainandinterruptsthechronologyoftheactiononwithacutawayshowingtherescueofatelegraphoperatorwhom
the
outlaws
earlierhadtied
up.

in
themany"ridesto
the
rescue"thatclimaxhis
films.
InTheGirlandHerTrust
(1912),

Griffithcutsbackandforthfromapairofrobbers,

theheroineandareescapingonarailroadpumpcar,
whoisattemptingtoovertakethembytrain.Byintercuttingtheselinesofaction,
Griffith
creates
suspense,

by
shortening
the
lengths

shots,

accelerates
