Inrecentyears,thedevelopmentoftheChineseeconomyhasbeenincrediblyfast,somemightevencallitmiraculous.Butbehindthemiraclesliesaproblem:thedevelopmentisunbalancedindifferentregions.

UnderthestrategyoftheChinesegovernment,Chinahasthreemajoreconomicregions:theeast,themiddleandthewest.Withitsadvantageousposition,theeastisthefastestdevelopingarea,leavingthewestfarbehind,andthemiddlesomewhereinbetween.Forinstance,theGDPpercapitaintheeastamountstoUS$2023,whilethatofthewestisonly40%oftheeast.

Furthermore,thegapbetweentheurbanandtherural,accordingtotheStateStatisticalBureau,haswidenedtomorethan10years.Therearepeopleinthebigcitieswithlargehouses,expensivecars,otherluxuriesandbetteropportunities.However,therearepeopleinthecountryside,livingonmeagerfood,withoutthesecurityofhealth,education,andsoon.

ThisisthediversityoftheChineseeconomy.Fortheunityofthefullnationaleconomicdevelopment,governmentsofalllevelshavedecidedoncorrespondingstrategies,forexample,thegreaterdevelopmentofthewesternregion,thecontinuingriseofthecentralChina,andthefasterdevelopmentoftheeast.Specifically,withinthewest,provincesalikehaveestablishedprogramsofdevelopment,withfinancialandtechnologicalaidofthecentralgovernment,ma-ki-ngfulluseofthewesternnaturalresources.Suchstrategieshaveturnedouttoberemarkablysuccessful.

Iftheirstrategiessucceed,intheyearstocome,Ihopetoseesuchaworld:everyone,whiteorblack,brownoryellow,canstandsidebyside,equal,happy,andharmonious.Thereisdiversity;thereisunity.

Acoupleofdaysago,Isawthenewlyenrolledfreshmeninthemilitarytrainingundertheglowingsun.Theywearthesame,movethesame,eatthesame,andsingtogether,theydoeverythingunderonesamecommandwithoutanexception.Icouldseesweetsmilesontheirfacesthoughtheheatofsummerwasmeltingthem.Why?Becausethisisanonce-in-a-lifetimeopportunityfor
