apartheidhasnofuture.Ithastobeendedbyourowndecisivemassactionin

ordertobuildpeaceandsecurity.

Themasscampaignsofdefianceandotheractionsofourorganizationsand

peoplecanonlyculminateintheestablishmentofcontinentisincalculable.The

fabricoffamilylifeofmillionsofmypeoplehasbeenshattered.Millionsare

homelessandunemployed.Oureconomy—Oureconomyliesinruinsandourpeople

areembroiledinpoliticalstrife.Ourresorttothearmedstrugglein1960with

theformationofthemilitarywingoftheANC,UmkhontoweSizwe,wasapurely

defensiveactionagainsttheviolenceofapartheid.Thefactorswhich

necessitatedthearmedstrugglestillexisttoday.Wehavenooptionbutto

continue.Weexpressthehopethataclimateconducivetoanegotiated

settlementwillbecreatedsoonsothattheremaynolongerbetheneedforthe

armed,strategies,and,Ifeeldutyboundtomakethepointthataleaderof

themovementisapersonwhohasbeendemocraticallyelectedatanational

conference.
