Howhurricanesform

Oceanscanbecomewarmenoughinthesummerforhurricanestodevelop,andtheoceansalsoretainsummerheatthroughthefall.Asaresult,thehurricaneseasonintheAtlanticBasin,whichcomprisestheAtlanticOcean,CaribbeanSea,andtheGulfofMexico,runsfromJune1throughNovember30.Atleast25out-of-seasonstorms,however,haveoccurredfrom1887through2003,and9ofthesestrengthenedintohurricanesforatleastafewhours.

Hurricanesweakenanddieoutwhencutofffromwarm,humidairastheymoveovercoolerwaterorlandbutcanremaindangerousastheyweaken.Hurricanesandothertropicalcyclonesbeginasdisorganizedclustersofshowersandthunderstorms.Whenoneoftheseclustersbecomesorganizedwithitswindsmakingacompletecirclearoundacenter,itiscalledatropicaldepression(热带低气压)
