Scopeapplicabletopartsand Scopeapplicableto TERMSAND MANAGEMENTSTANDARDSFOR“ENVIRONMENT-RELATEDSUBSTANCESTOBE Additionalrulesfor Withregardtothe“Environment-relatedSubstancestobeControlled(‘ControlledSubstances’)”containedinthepartsanddevicesemployedinSonyproducts,thisStandardclarifies(1)bannedsubstances,(2)substancestobephasedout,and(3)excludedsubstanceapplications,inordertorealizethefollowingaims:TocomplywithrelatedlawsandTocontributetothepreservationoftheglobalScopeapplicabletopartsandTargetsaretheparts,materials,andotherarticlesthatareprocuredbytheSonygrouporbythirdpartiestowhichtheSonygroupoutsourcestheirdesignandproduction.ThetargetsneedtosatisfythecriteriaspecifiedinthisStandard.Targetpartsandmaterials:Parts(electricalparts,mechanicalparts,semiconductordevices,PWBs,recordingmedia,packagingmaterials,andpackagingcomponents)Accessories(mice,remotecontrollers,ACadopters,andotheraccessorieswithwhichyoucanuseMaterialsconstitutingsubsidiarypartsandmaterials(e.g.adhesives,adhesivetapes,andsolderingmaterials)usedforproductsRepairpartsforproductsonthemarket(SonywilllaterissueanoticetoclarifyPackagingmaterialsthatpartsrsusefordeliveryandprotection(RefertoTable4.3aforSonyproductsbeingsoldordistributedwiththeSonygroup’slogosonthem,whosedesignandproductionareoutsourcedtothirdpartiesThirdparties’productswhosedesignandproductionareoutsourcedtotheSonygroup(exceptwhenthepartsandmaterialsarespecifiedbythethirdparties)RegardingRegardingthesubstancesand/ortheirpurposeswhoseuseisbannedbyregionalorcountrylawsandordinances,thelawsandordinancesmustbeobservedandfollowedeventhoughthesubstancesortheirpurposesarenotclearlyregulatedinthisStandard.TERMSANDAmongthesubstancescontainedinpartsanddevices,“Environment-relatedSubstancestobeControlled(‘ControlledSubstances’)”arethosewhich,accordingtoSony’sjudgment,havesignificantenvironmental-impactonbothhumansandtheglobe.Tomanagetheabove-mentionedsubstances,thefollowingthreelevelsandclassificationofExemptionareused.Thesubstancesand/ortheirpurposesclassifiedintothislevelarethosewhoseusemustbebannedThesubstancesand/ortheirpurposesclassifiedintothislevelarethoseforwhichaperiodforphase-outisindividuallyset.Onorafterthedatesetineachtable,thesubstancesintherespectivetablewillbeclassifiedintoLevel1andmustnotbecontainedinpartsandmaterials.Nodeadlineforbanningtheuseiscurrentlysetforthesubstancesclassifiedintothislevel.TheyshallbeclassifiedintoLevel2tobebannedinphases,dependingontheavailabilityofalternativepartsandmaterialsthatsatisfytheintendedapplication.ThesubstanceapplicationsclassifiedasExemptionarethosenotregulatedbythelaworexcludedfromthe‘ControlledSubstances’duetotheunavailabilityofadequatealternativepartsandmaterialsonthemarketthatsatisfiestheintendedapplication.“Contained”isasituationinwhichasubstanceisaddedto,blendedwith,fillsup,oradheresto(1)thepartsordevicesemployedinproducts,or(2)thematerialsusedforthepartsordevices,regardlessifthesituationisintentionallycreatedornot.(Whenasubstanceisunintentionallycontainedin,oraddedtoaproductinaprocessingprocess,thissituationisalsoregardedas“Contained.”)An“Impurity”isasubstancethatsatisfieseitherorbothofthefollowingOnecontainedinanaturalmaterial,whichcannottechnicallyberemovedinarefiningprocesstotally(i.e.naturalimpurities);andOnegeneratedinasynthesisprocess,thetotalremovalofwhichistechnicallyimpossible.Additionally,therearesubstancescalled“impurities,”thenameofwhichisusedtodistinguishthemfrommainmaterials. Iftheyareusedforthepurposeofchangingthecharacteristicsofamaterial,theyaretreatedas“Contained.”Furthermore,therearesubstancescalledDopants(DoAgents)thatareintentionallyaddedtomanufacturesemiconductordevices,etc.Theyarenottreatedas“Contained”ifpresentinthedevicesinaverysmallamount.Whentheallowableconcentrationofa‘ControlledSubstance’isspecifiedinthisStandard,theconcentrationmustbeobservedevenifthesubstance,asan“Impurity,”mingleswithoradherestopartsordevices.ThedateonorafterwhichSonywon’taccepttheThisindicatesthedateonorafterwhichSonywon’tacceptthepartsand/ormaterialsspecifiedinthecorrespondingcolumn.Morespecifically,“stics”mainlymeanthefollowingarticlescomposedofsynthetichigh-molecularpolymers:resins,fi,adhesives,adhesivetapes,moldedproducts,productsmadeofsyntheticrubber,andsticsmadefromrawmaterialsofntorigin.MANAGEMENTSTANDARDSFOR“ENVIRONMENT-RELATEDSUBSTANCESTOBETable LeadandleadMercuryandmercuryPolychlorinatedterphenyls(PCT)PolybrominateddiphenylethersTributyltinSpecificazoTable4.2Main“Targets”and“ThedateonorafterwhichSonywon’tacceptthetargets”regarding‘ControlledSubstances’ Allmetals,alloys,inorganiccompounds,metal-organiccompounds,inorganicsalts,organicsalts,andotherThedateonorafterwhichSonywon’tacceptthetargetsThestabilizers,pigments,ordyesusedforstics(includingrubber)materials(e.g.labels,cabinets,phonographrecords,bindingband,thekeysofremotecontrollers,theoutersticresinsofelectricalparts,andtheinsulatorsofelectricalwiring)Surfacetreatment(e.g.ting),SonyhasbeenCadmiumandcadmiumcompoundsexceptthoseclassifiedintoLevel2andusedfortheintendedapplicationofExemptionSwitches,relays,breakers,DCmotors,andotherelectricalcontactGlass,andthepigmentsaswellasdyesofglasspaints(paintsforglassandthepigmentsaswellasdyesusedforglass)January1,-Partscomposedofmetalscontainingzinc(e.g.brass,zincfordiecasting)whosecadmiumconcentrationismorethan100ppmOctober1,Cadmiumandcadmiumcompoundsinelectricalcontactsandcadmiumtingofelectricalcontacts,forwhichhighreliabilityisrequiredandwhichhasnoalternativematerialsAllowableconcentration:Lessthan5ppmfor stics(includingrubber),paints,andinksStandardsformeasurementApressurizedacid positionmethoddoneinasealedcontainer(amicrowave method[e.g.EPA3052:1996,EN13346:2000]);Anacid positionmethodundertheexistenceofnitricacid,hydrogen-peroxidewaterandhydrochloricacid(e.g.EPA3050BRev.2:1996);andAwet positionmethodundertheexistenceofsulfuricacid,nitricacid,andhydrogen-peroxidewater(e.g.BSEN1122:2001).Note:Intheprocessofpreconditioning,precipitates(insolublematter)mustbetotallydissolvedbysomemeans(e.g.alkalifusion).InductivelyCoupled- sma-Atomic(Optical)EmissionSpectroscopy(ICP-AES[ICP-OES])(e.g.ENISO11885:1998); -Ifacombinationofapre-conditioningmethodandameasurementmethodcanguaranteethatthelowerdeterminationlimitofcadmiumislessthan5ppm,thecombinationisalsoapplicable.Anyoneofthemeasurementmethodsabove(exceptAAS)enablesyouto yzecadmiumandleadNote:Theelutionmethods,includingEN71-3:1994,ASTMF963-96a,andISO8124-3,mustnotbeappliedtothepre-conditioningmethodsprescribedinthisStandard.JISK0102-55,atestforindustrialsewage,specifiesmeasurementmethodsonly;thereforeyoumustspecifythepre-conditioningmethodthatisactuallyapplied. ArticlesthatsatisfynotonlytherulesspecifiedinTable4.2,butalsothefollowingconditionsdeterminedbytheregulationsofrelevantlawsThedateonorafterwhichSonywon’tacceptthetargets-ThearticleslistedinthePACKAGINGofTableSonyhasbeen-Cartonsforreturnableboxesownedbypart-“ssthan100ppm”isdeterminedastheallowabletotal-concentrationoffourheavymetals(cadmium,lead,,mercury,andhexavalentchromium)containedineachpart,ink,orpaintthatconstitutesapackage.Regardingallowableconcentrationsofcadmiumandleadcontainedinstics(includingrubber),paints,andinks,however,regulationsfor“Cadmiumandcadmiumcompounds”and“Leadandleadcompounds”mustalsobesatisfied.(Typicalsticparts:handles,cushions,fi,reels,tapes,magazinesticks[includingstoppers],polyvinylbags,bindingties,andtrays)Asforchromium,firstyzetotalchromiumandverifywhetherthetotalconcentrationsofthefourelements(i.e.cadmium,lead,mercury,andtotalchromium)arelessthan100ppm.Whenyzing,thesameAstheresult,ifthetotalconcentrationsofthefourelementsare100ppmormore,verifythesubtractionofthetotalchromiumcontentfromthetotalconcentrationsofthefourelementsresultsinlessthan100ppm,andthenyzeandconfirmthehexavalentchromiumisnotcontainedinthetotalchromium.Forcadmiumandlead,followthemethodsrespectivelyspecifiedonpages5and7.Fortotalchromium,followthemethodsspecifiedonpage5.Formercury,typicaltestmethodsareasApressurizedacid positionmethoddoneinasealedcontainer(amicrowave method[e.g.EPA3052:1996]);Aheatingevaporation-cold-vapormercury-atomic-absorptionmethod(Full-automatictestequipmentismarketed.);andAwet positionmethod(e.g.Kjeldahlmethod)inwhicha positionflaskwitharefluxcondenserisusedto
