ChristopherReeve(September25,1952—October10,2004)wasanAmericanactor,director,producerandwriterrenownedforhisfilmportrayalofSuperman/ClarkKent.ReevewasborninNewYorkCitytowriter/professorFranklinReeveandjournalistBarbaraJohnson.Whenhewasfour,hisparentsdivorced.HismothermovedwithsonsChristopherandBenjamintoPrinceton,NewJersey,andmarriedaninvestmentbankerafewyearslater.Aftergraduatingfromhighschool,ReevestudiedatCornellUniversity,whileatthesametimeworkingasaprofessionalactor.InhisfinalyearofCornell,hewasoneofthetwostudentsselected(RobinWilliamswastheother)tostudyatNewYork’sfamousJuilliardSchoolofPerformingArts,undertherenownedJohnHouseman.AlthoughChristopherismostwellknownforhisroleasSuperman(1978),arolewhichheplayedwithbothcharismaandgrace,hisactingcareerspansamuchlargerground.BI-ChristopherReeve2

In1995Reevewasparalyzedfromtheneckdowninaridingaccidentandspenttherestofhislifewheelchair-bound,becomingaspokespersonforthedisabledandforstemcellresearch.SelectedquotesofChristopherReeve:

LanceArmstrongwasbornSeptember18,1971inPlano,Texas.HisparentsdivorcedwhenArmstrongwasreallyyoungandLancewasraisedbyhismother,Linda.LanceArmstronggothisfirstbicyclewhenhewassevenandstartedridingeveryday.SomedaysArmstrongwouldcycleallthewaytoOklahomaandwouldhavetocallhismomtocomepickhimup.Eventually,LanceArmstrongwasabletobikehomehimselfandstartedenteringamateurraces.Duringhissenioryearofhighschool,hemovedtoColoradototrainwiththeUSOlympicdevelopmentteamforcycling.

LanceArmstrongcompetedinthe1992OlympicsinBarcelona,Spain,whereheplaced14thintheroadrace.AftertheOlympics,ArmstrongturnedprofessionalandjoinedtheMotorolacyclingteam.Hisprofessionalcareerdidn'tgetofftoagreatstart,asLanceArmstrongfinisheddeadlastinhisfirstrace.Butin1993,ArmstrongwontheWorldRoadRaceChampionshipinOslo,Norwayandby1996Lancewastheseventh-rankedcyclistintheworld.Aftercompetinginthe1996OlympicsinAtlanta,Armstrongstartedtofeeltiredandweakandcouldn'traceaswellasheusedto.DoctorstoldLancehehadcancerinhistesticles.LanceArmstronghadoneofhistesticlesremovedandstartedmassivechemotherapy.ThecancereventuallyspreadtoArmstrong’sbrainanddoctorsonlygavehima40percentchanceofsurviving.Thatdidn'tstopLanceArmstrongfrombelievinghecouldraceagain.Armstronghadsurgeryandseveralmoredosesofchemotherapyandwascancer-freebyFebruary,1997.
