ritingprocesses.Usethejournaltoworkoutproblemsyouarehavingwithadraft,tomakeplansfornextsteps,toweighchoices,askquestions,reviewyourprogress.Keeparunningcommentaryofwhat'sbeenhappening,whatyouhopetobeabletodo,howyoufeelaboutthewriting,etc.Thejournalcanalsobeaplacewhereyouwrestlewithcontentproblems,comingtoknowthroughexploringasubjectinwriting.20journalsforyourreflectionsonwritingarerequiredbythiscourse.Therearenocontentandgenrerequirement,butapplicationofthestrategies/skillsinthecoursebooktoyourreflectivejournalwritingisencouraged.Handinonejournal(100-200words)foronemeetingatthebeginningofaclassinperson.Journalstobehandedinbyotherstudentsorfortheclassesnotattendedwillnotbeaccepted.Whileforthemostpart,youshouldwriteareflectivejournalentrywhenyouwantto,thereareseveraltimesthatyoumust:Aftereachpeerwritinggroupactivity,writeatleastfiveminutesansweringthequestions:WhathappenedinthissessionHowdoIfeelaboutthewritingnowWhatwillIdonextAsyouworkthrougheachwritingproject,writingreflectivelyforyourselfinthelog,youwillbeaccumulatingarecordofyourconcerns,insights,progress,difficultiesthatwillbeimportantforthereflectiveletterforyourfinalportfolio.Afterapaperhasbeenreturnedandyouhavereadmycommentswritea"talk-back"entryinyourreflectivejournalgivingyourresponsetomycommentsandofferingyourthoughtsaboutthepaperatthattime.Betweeneachwritingproject,considerandwriteaboutthefollowing:WhatdidyouuseincompletingthisassignmentthatyouusedorlearnedwhenyouweredoingthepreviousoneWhathaveyoulearnedwhilecompletingthisassignmentthatyoucanuseinthefutureWhatwritingareyoudoingforothercoursesandhowcanyouorhaveyouusedwhatyouarelearninginthiscoursetohelpyouinothercoursesReflectiveCompanionPiecestomajorwritingassignmentsForeachmajorwritingassignmentyoushouldwritea"talk-to"whichissubmittedwithyourpresentationdraft,butwrittenonaseparatepieceofpaper.Inthiscompanionpiece,tellmeyourtakeonthepaperasyousubmitit.WhatdidyouwantthepapertodoHowwelldoesitdoitWhatwouldyouliketodoifyouhadmoretimeWhatjustwasn'tworkingforyouWhatareyoumostpleasedwithThentellmewhatyouthinkmytakewillbeonitandwhy.Pleasenotethatthisisaparagraphortwoofyourmostrecentreflectiononthepaperyouaresubmitting.Itisseparatefromtheongoingreflectivelogbecauseitservesasashort"coverletter"totheoneassignmentand,unlikethelogyoukeepforyourself,ithasanaudience.3.Inyourcompletedwritingportfolio,youwillpresentyourwritingandyouaswriter.Youcannotexpecttopresentagoodcaseinyourportfoliounlessyouhavebeenwritingreflectivelythroughoutthequarter.IV.OtherfeaturesofthecourseBecausewritingandreadingaresocialactivities,muchofourclassworkwillinvolveconversationsaboutthereadings,thewritingdonebyprofessionalsandstudentsintheclass,andabouttheissuesortopicswithwhichthewritingdeals.Inaddition,writersneedtoreadandrespondtootherwriter'stextsandtheybenefitfromhearingwhatotherssayabouttheirwriting.Throughouteachofthewritingprojectsyouwillhaveopportunitiestoworkinyourwritinggrouptogiveandreceivefeedbackonyourworksinprogress,toaskanddiscussquestions,andtooffersuggestions.Peerresponsestodraftsarerequiredandmustbesubmittedwiththepresentationdraft.Thesemustbecompletedbyamemberoftheclass.(Partofthelearningexperienceofthecoursewillbetoreadandrespondtoother'spapers,soitisimportantthatallarepresentwithadraftforpeerresponsedays.)Conferencesareanimportantpartofthecourse.Ontheschedule,youwillfindmid-termandfinalconferences.Eachstudentisrequiredtoattendthese.Inaddition,Iwouldliketomeetwithyouwheneveryouhaveaneed.Itisespeciallyusefultohaveaconferencebeforeorasyoureviseapaper.Idoaskthatyouwait24hoursfromthetimeyoureceiveyourpaperandthatyoureadbothyourpaperandmycommentsbeforeyoucomeforaconference.AttendanceandClassParticipation:Inanactive,participatorylearningclassroomsuchasthis,studentshaveanobligationtotheirclassmatestobeacontributingmemberoftheclasscommunity.Whenyoumissclass,notonlyareyoumissingimportantlearningactivities,butyouarenotdoingyourpartfortheothermembersoftheclass.Therefore,youareexpectedtoattendeveryclass,tobeprepared,andtoparticipateintheactivitiesoftheday.Allabsencesarefactoredintotheclassparticipationportionofyourgrade.POLICIESBeginningoftheTermAttendancePolicy:Studentsareexpectedtoattendclassfromthefirstdayoftheterm.Ifyouareregisteredforthecourseandsection,youareexpectedtobeinclass.However,toaccommodatestudentswhoarechangingschedulesduringthefirstweek,theRWCEnglishDepartmentrequiresthatstudentsbeinattendancebythe4thhourtheclassmeets.AttendancePolicyforthecourse:Youarerequiredtoattendallclasses.Ifyoumissmorethan3classes,youmaybeaskedtowithdrawfromthecourse,regardlessofthereasonsforyourabsence.Exceptionsmaybemadeforstudentswithextremecircumstanceswhoareotherwisecompletingthecourserequirements,contributingtotheclass,andproducinghighqualitywork.Pleasenotethatthesecaseswouldbeexceptions,nottherule.MeetingDeadlines:Presentationdraftsanddraftsforpeergroupresponsemustbesubmittedontime,followingtheduedatesontheschedule.Extensions,exceptforpeerreview,maybegrantedifarrangementsaremadepriortotheduedate.WithdrawalPolicy:Youmaywithdrawfromt
