eaveryfastsportscar.32.Leaveoff(bite)_________yournails.33.stillhavealot(learn)_________ifyou’llforgivemy(say)_________so.34.certainlymustn’tmiss(see)_________thiswonderfulfilm.AdditionalReadingCollegeExtracurricularActivities------ImpactonStudents,TypesofExtracurricularActivitiesAtthebeginningofthetwenty-firstcentury,manycollegesanduniversitieshaveabroadeducationalmission:todevelopthe"wholestudent."Oncollegecampuses,extracurricularinvolvementisakeytoolinthispersonaldevelopment.Forthemajorityofcollegeanduniversitystudents,involvementinextracurricularactivitiesplaysanintegralroleinthecollegiateexperience.Studentsbecomeinvolvedinextracurricularactivitiesnotonlyforentertainment,social,andenjoymentpurposes,butmostimportant,togainandimproveskills.AwideanddiversifiedrangeofextracurricularactivitiesexistsonU.S.campuses,meetingavarietyofstudentinterests.ImpactonStudentsTheimportanceofextracurricularactivitiesoncollegecampusesiswellestablished.Theprimarygoalsofextracurricularactivitiesfocusontheindividualstudentlevel,theinstitutionallevel,andthebroadercommunitylevel.Theseactivitiesexisttocomplementtheuniversity'sacademiccurriculumandtoaugmentthestudent'seducationalexperience.Accordingtoa1993articlebyAlexanderAstin,almostanytypeofstudentinvolvementincollegepositivelyaffectsstudentlearninganddevelopment.Extracurricularactivitiesprovideasettingtobecomeinvolvedandtointeractwithotherstudents,thusleadingtoincreasedlearningandenhanceddevelopment.astudent'speergroupisthemostimportantsourceofinfluenceonastudent'sacademicandpersonaldevelopment.Byidentifyingwithapeergroup,thatgroupmayinfluenceastudent'saffectiveandcognitivedevelopmentaswellashisorherbehavior.Asthedevelopmentofthewell-roundedindividualisaprincipalgoalofextracurricularactivitiesoncollegeanduniversitycampuses,thenumerousexperiencestheseactivitiesaffordpositivelyimpactstudents'emotional,intellectual,social,andinter-personaldevelopment.Byworkingtogetherwithotherindividuals,studentslearntonegotiate,communicate,manageconflict,andleadothers.Takingpartintheseout-of-the-classroomactivitieshelpsstudentstounderstandtheimportanceofcriticalthinkingskills,timemanagement,andacademicandintellectualcompetence.Involvementinactivitieshelpsstudentsmaturesociallybyprovidingasettingforstudentinteraction,relationshipformation,anddiscussion.Workingoutsideoftheclassroomwithdiversegroupsofindividualsallowsforstudentstogainmoreself-confidence,autonomy,andappreciationforothers'differences6外国语言文学系大学外语教研室集体备课教案2012-2013学年第一学期andsimilarities.Studentsalsodevelopskillsspecifictotheircareerpathandimperativeforfuturejobsuccess.Studentshaveopportunitiestoimprovetheirleadershipandinterpersonalskillswhilealsoincreasingtheirself-confidence.Extracurricularinvolvementallowsstudentstolinkacademicknowledgewithpracticalexperience,therebyleadingtoabetterunderstandingoftheirownabilities,talents,andcareergoals.Futureemployersseekindividualswiththeseincreasedskilllevels,makingtheseinvolvedstudentsmoreviableinthejobmarket.participationinextracurricularactivitiesandleadershiprolesintheseactivitiesarepositivelylinkedtoattainmentofone'sfirstjobandtomanagerialpotential.Studentinvolvementinextracurricularactivitiesalsopositivelyimpactseducationalattainment.ErnestT.PascarellaandPatrickT.Terenzini's1991researchindicatesthatextracurricularinvolvementhasapositiveimpactonattainingabachelor'sdegreeandoneducationalaspirations.Studentswhoareactivelyengagedaremorelikelytohavehighereducationalambitionsthanuninvolvedstudents.Finally,extracurricularactivitiesfocusoninstitutionalgoals,suchasbuildingandsustainingcommunityoncampusaswellasstudentretention.Ascampusesbecomemorediverse,studentsdesireanenvironmentinwhichtheyfeelconnectedtoothersandtotheExtracurricularactivitiesprovideaplaceforstudentstocometogether,discusspertinentideasandissues,andaccomplishcommongoals.Withinthiscommunity,wherestudentsfeelcomfortablewithoneanother,learninganddevelopmentareenhancedandstudentretentionispositivelyimpacted.AccordingtoVincentTinto's1987research,studentswillbemorelikelytopersistincollegeiftheyfeeltheyhavehadrewardingencounterswithacollege'ssocialandacademicsystems.Throughextracurricularparticipation,studentsfrequentlyinteractwithpeerswhohavesimilarinterests,providingsocialintegrationintothecollegeenvironment.Asaresult,involvedstudentsviewtheircollegeyearsasapositiveexperienceandfeeltheyareavitalpartoftheresultinginhigherretentionrates.TypesofExtracurricularActivitiesBecauseofthediverseinterestsofcollegestudents,therangeofextracurricularactivityofferingsvariesdependinguponthesizeandtypeofcollegeorExtracurricularactivitiesrangefromprimarilysocialorganizationstogovernanceorganiza
