1、Lesson 23 Vehicle and Engine Analyzers Lesson 23 Vehicle and Engine AThere are many types of vehicle system and, engine analyzers and testers manufactured by different corporations, such as Bosch, OTC, Hermann, and so on, to perform diagnostic tests and find possible location of vehicle and engine p
2、roblems. The analyzers and testers have been built for trained expert personnel, such as mechanics, electricians, masters, technicians and engineers in the automotive trade. There are many types of vehiclHere the FSAvehicle system analyzer of Bosch is introduced briefly. The general concept of compu
3、ter engine analyzers is also described. 1. General InformationTheFSAvehicle system analyzer is a modular concept instrument designed for testing purposes in automotive workshops. Here the FSAvehicle system aTogether with other Bosch test units (report printer, exhaust gas testers) and functional exp
4、ansions such as the diesel adapter, the analyzer can be turned into a concept for diagnosis purposes: measurement, testing, diagnosis, communication, informing, training, requesting expert knowledge. The basic software comprises two areas of application: diagnosis and digital scope. Together with ot
5、her Bosch test2. The DiagnosisThe Diagnosis application contains the test program: engine test, multimeter, electronics test, engine analysis and symptom.2. The Diagnosis2.1 Engine TestThe Engine test comprises all the test steps required for comprehensive testing of spark-ignition and diesel engine
6、s. When running this test on diesel engine vehicles, the diesel module or diesel adapter is required. The user is prompted through the individual test steps by instructions given on the screen. 2.1 Engine Test2.2 MultimeterThe Multimeter test program contains four test steps. A universally applicabl
7、e multimeter for measuring all the electrical variables that can arise in a motor vehicle. Test steps for voltage and current analysis is displayed as an oscilloscope image and the most important technical data as measured values. 2.2 MultimeterFurthermore, the program also offers a pressure/tempera
8、ture test step used for testing, e.g. the fuel pressure or the air/oil temperature.2.3 Electronics TestThe Electronics test can be used for reading out the error memory and interactive processing of the errors with the user in vehicles equipped with systems capable of self-diagnosis, e.g. the contro
9、l unit of the ABS. Furthermore, the program also 2.4 Engine AnalysisEngine analysis is a CompacSoft test program. It is an engine test that evaluates the test-step results and provides information in plain test about the possible causes of faults.2.4 Engine Analysis2.5 SymptomThe Symptom test progra
10、m offers the test step known as Engine will not run. In the course of a single cranking procedure, all the relevant measuring variables of an engine that will not start are determined.2.5 Symptom3. Digital ScopeThe Digital scope application comprises the following oscilloscope modes: ignition, multi
11、meter and characteristic curves. The oscilloscope operates in real-time mode with up to 20 images per second. The legend memory always contains the last 8 seconds of the signal curve without interruption.3. Digital Scope3.1 IgnitionThe scope mode Ignition can display all primary and secondary proces
12、ses as single, full or raster images. For the 2-channel mode option, it is possible to display two different signals (e. g. the primary voltage and the primary current) simultaneously on the screen and to compare them. This allows the user to draw conclusions with respect to the ignition system.3.1
13、Ignition3.2 MultimeterIn scope mode Multimeter, it is possible to display the voltage and current curves of sensors or actuators of electronic vehicle systems. 2-channel mode offers the same possibilities as in the Ignition scope mode.3.2 Multimeter3.3 Characteristic CurvesThe Characteristic curves
14、scope mode allows signals to be displayed in the form of a characteristic curve, the respective signal being plotted against the engine speed (rpm) or time. For example, the change in the dwell angle as the engine speed increases.3.3 Characteristic Curves4. Engine Test EquipmentMany different kinds
15、of test equipment are needed to perform the various engine performance tests. A brief description of the major items and their functions follows: spark tester, timing light, tachometer, electronic ignition tester, multimeter, digital volt-ohmmeter, electronic fuel injection tester, scanner, computer
16、 analyzer and exhaust gas analyzer. 4. Engine Test Equipment5. Computer Engine AnalyzerThe modern engine analyzer consists of a set of test instruments, a computer, and a display screen. Many also have a printer to provide a printed record of specifications and test results. Although there are many
17、different models of analyzer, their function is basically the same. 5. Computer Engine AnalyzerEngine analyzers are normally used to check the following systems and performances: battery, charging system, starting system, ignition system, fuel system, emission control systems, engine condition and c
18、omputer control systems.Engine analyzers are normally 6. Engine Tune-UpA tune-up is performed to return an engine to its new car performance, reliability, and economy. To do this, any part that is defective must be overhauled or replaced as necessary to correct any problems diagnosed, at the same ti
19、me reducing vehicle emissions to specified limits. 6. Engine Tune-UpThe principle of good tune-up is to determine whether the adequate compression, correct air/fuel ratio, adequate ignition at the spark plugs at the correct time and low exhaust emissions are present in sufficient quantity and qualit
20、y to ensure good performance and economy, and to meet emissions standards.The principle of good tune-up 6.1 Gasoline Engine Tune-UpThe following procedures can be used to tune up a gasoline engine. The order in which these operations are performed will vary with vehicle model and with test results.6
21、.1 Gasoline Engine Tune-Up(1) Identify the customers complaint.(2) Activate self-diagnosis on computer-controlled engines to obtain fault cedes or perform engine analysis with the engine analyzer.(3) Check and correct all fluid levels.(4) Check the fluid lines and hoses for condition, routing, and l
22、eaks.(1) Identify the customers co(5) Check the vacuum lines for condition, routing, and leaks.(6) Check the wiring and harness connectors for condition and routing.(7) Check the drive belts for condition and tension.(8) Clean and inspect the battery and cable connections.(9) Test the battery.(5) Ch
23、eck the vacuum lines for(10) Test the cranking voltage and/or starter draw.(11) Test the alternator output, voltage, and current.(12) Test the ignition timing and timing advance (centrifugal, vacuum).(13) Test the ignition coil input and output.(14) Inspect the distributor cap and rotor.(10) Test th
24、e cranking voltage(15) Inspect and test the secondary wires.(16) Perform a cylinder balance test.(17) Perform a compression test.(18) Replace or service the spark plugs.(19) Test or replace the PCV valve.(20) Replace the fuel filter and air filter.(15) Inspect and test the seco(21) Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.(22) Test the heated intake air system.(23) Test the manifold heat control valve operation.(24) Test the EGR
