Frail older women livingalone are the persons most likely to reside in homes with extra roomand to need both physically supportive housing features and services toage in place. 7、le that inresponse to a question about housing preferences, AARP surveys of olderpersons continue to find that approximately 80% of older persons reportthat what they want is to stay in their own homes and never move. Thisphenomena has been termed the preference to age in place.8 9 A long-standing a

8、ssumption in the field of housing has been that aspersons become more frail, they will have to move along a housingcontinuum from one setting to another. As the figure on housing optionssuggests, along this continuum are found a range of housing optionsincluding single family homes, apartments, congregate living, assistedliving, and board and care homes (Kendig & Pynoos, 1996). The endpoint of the housing continuum has been the nursing home. These options
