The electric car itself is non-pollutin
8、g and an attractive transportation means from the standpoint of preserving urban environment. Electric cars run purely on electrical energy generated by large battery units. The electric car has one or sometimes two large AC motors and a single- or double-speed reduction gearbox to drive the wheels.

So, a form of transportation called “hybrid” that combines two or more forms of power and converts
10、this into propulsion power in a direct or indirect way is deploying widely. These hybrid vehicles often use internal combustion engine and electric motor or motors to drive the wheels. The majority of todays hybrid cars are petrol-electric, but as technology advances we are seeing diesel-electric hy

A fuel cell converts the chemicals hydrogen and oxygen into water, and in the process it produces electricity. The fuel cell is powered with pure hydrogen, but hydrogen
12、is difficult to store and distribute. Methanol is a liquid fuel that has similar properties to gasoline. 18、namely battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Only BEVs and PHEVs are plug-capable, and are referred to as plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs).1.3 Classifications of Electric Vehicles 电动汽车的分类1
19、.3.1 Battery Electric Vehicles BEVs also known as pure electric vehicles, full electric vehicles or electric vehicles (EV) , are powered by an electric motor and do not employ an internal combustion engine,as shown in Figure 1.5. The battery provided electric energy to the motor and used as the ener

21、s; therefore, they are also called zero-emission vehicles. In order to facilitate reasonable driving ranges, the BEVs typically have the largest battery packs compared to other models. The size of these battery packs usually varies between 20 kWh to 85 kWh with all-electric-range (AER) of 80 300 mil

Currently, a variety of commercial battery electric vehicles are available in the market. 1.3 Classifications of Electric Vehicles 电动汽车的分类1.3.2 Hybrid Electric VehiclesHEVs are primarily powered by internal combustion engines, which use conventional fuels such as gasoline and diesel. These vehic
23、les are also equipped with battery packs, which are charged by regenerative braking systems and are mainly used to enhance the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. The first generation of HEVs was presented to the market in 1997, when Toyota introduced the Prius model, and two years later Honda introduce
24、d the Insight model. As of mid-2015 more than 10 million HEVs were deployed worldwide. 1.3 Classifications of Electric Vehicles 电动汽车的分类1.3.3 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles As shown in Figure 1.6, PHEVs employ both an electric motor and an internal combustion engine (ICE), which can use gasoline or
25、 diesel. Typically, PHEV batteries are smaller than those of BEVs, because the required driving range is mostly supported by internal combustion engines and their combined driving range is higher than that of BEVs. As a result, the main advantage of PHEVs is employing both engines types, which helps
26、 the consumers overcome range anxiety. In PHEVs, the electric motor is used mostly in urban environments where driving involves frequent stops. On the other hand, an internal combustion engine is used when the battery is depleted, during intensive cooling or heating, or during rapid acceleration.1.3
