剑三test2:The chart shows that Britain, among the four European countries listed, has spent most heavily on the range of consumer goods included. In every case, British spending is considerably higher than that

、 of other countries; only in the case of tennis racquets does another country, Italy, come close. In contrast, Germany is generally the lowest spender. This is most evident in photographic film, where Germany spends much less than Britain. Germany only spends more than another country, France, in two

、 cases: tennis racquets and perfumes.Meanwhile, France and Italy generally maintain middle positions, averaging approximately similar spending overall. Specifically, France spends more on CDs and photographic film but less on tennis racquets than Italy does. Italys spending on personal stereos is on

、ly marginally greater than that of France, while spending on toys is equal between the two. It is clear from the data given that there are some significant differences in spending habits within Europe.剑三test3:The charts below show the levels of participation in education and science in developi

、ng and industrialised countries in 1980 and 1990.The data shows the differences between developing and industrialised countries' participation in education and science. In terms of the number of years of schooling received, we see that the length of time people spend at school in industrialised c

、ountries was much greater at 8.5 years in 1980, compared to 2.5 years in developing countries. The gap was increased further in 1990 when the figures rose to 10.5 years and 3.5 years respectively.we can see a similar pattern in the second graph, which shows that the number of people working as scien

、tists and technicians in industrialised countries increased from 55 to 85 per 1,000 people between 1980 and 1990, while the numrber in developing countries went from 12 to 20.Finally, the figures for spending on research and development show that industrialised countries more than double their spend

、ing, from$200bn to $420bn, whereas developing countries actually decreased theirs, from $75bn down to $25bn.Overall we can see that not only are there very large differences between the two economies but that these gaps are widening.剑4test1The table gives a breakdown of the different types of family

、 who were living in poverty in Australia in 1999.On average, 11% of all households, comprising almost two million people, were in this position. However, those consisting of only one parent or a single adult had almost double this proportion of poor people, with 21% and 19% respectively.Couples gene

、rally tended to be better off, with lower poverty levels for couples without children (7%) than those with children (12%). It is noticeable that for both types of household with children, a higher than average proportion were living in poverty at this time.Older people were generally less likely to

、be poor, though once again the trend favoured elderly couples (only 4%) rather than single elderly people (6%).Overall the table suggests that households of single adults and those with children were more likely to be living in poverty than those consisting of couples.剑四test3:The chart gives informa

、tion about post-school qualifications in terms of the different levels of further education reached by men and women in Australia in 1999. We can see immediately that there were substantial differences in the proportion of men and women at different levels. The biggest gender difference is at t

、he lowest post-school level, where 90% of those who held a skilled vocational diploma were men, compared with only 10% of women. By contrast, more women held undergraduate diplomas (70%) and marginally more women reached degree level (55%). At the higher levels of education, men with postgradua

、te diplomas clearly outnumbered their female counterparts (70% and 30%, respectively), and also constituted 60% of Masters graduates. Thus we can see that more men than women hold qualifications at the lower and higher levels of education, while more women reach undergraduate diploma level than

、 men. The gender difference is smallest at the level of Bachelors degree, however.剑5 test2The graph shows the increase in the ageing population in Japan, Sweden and the USA. It indicates that the percentage of elderly people in all three countries is expected to increase to almost 25% of the respect

、ive populations by the year 2040.In 1940 the proportion of people aged 65 or more stood at only 5% in Japan, approximately 7% in Sweden and 9% in the US. However, while the figures for the Western countries grew to about 15% in around 1990, the figure for Japan dipped to only 2.5% for much of this p

、eriod, before rising to almost 5% again at the present time. In spite of some fluctuation in the expected percentages, the proportion of older people will probably continue to increase in the next two decades in the three countries. A more dramatic rise is predicted between 2030 and 2040 in Japan, b

、y which time it is thought that the proportion of elderly people will be similar in the three countries.剑5 test3The map shows two proposed locations for a new supermarket for the town of Garlsdon. The first potential location(S1) is outside the town itself, and is sited just off the main road to the

、town of Hindon, lying 12 kms to the north-west. This site is in the countryside and so would be able to accommodate a lot of car parking. This would make it accessible to shoppers from both Hindon and Garlsdon who could travel by car. As it is also close to the railway line linking the two towns to

、Gransdon(25 km to the south-east), and a potentially large number of shoppers would be also to travel by train. In contrast, the suggested location, S2, is right in the town centre, which would be good for local residents. Theoretically the store could be accessed by road or rail from the surrounding

、 towns, including Bransdon, but as the central area is a no-traffic zone, cars would be unable to park and access would be difficult. Overall, neither site is appropriate for all the towns, but for customers in Cransdon, Hindon and Garlsdon, the out-of-town site (S1) would probably offer more advant

、ages.剑6test1The graph shows how the amount of water used worldwide changed between 1900 and 2000. Throughout the century, The largest quantity of the global water used for agricultural purpose and this increased dramatically from about 500 km³ to around 3000 km³ in the year 2000.Water used

、 in the industrial and domestic sectors also increased, but consumption was minimal until mid-century. From 1950 onwards, industrial use grew steadily to just over 1000 km³, while domestic use rose more slowly to only 300 km³, both far below the levels of consumption by agriculture. The ta

、ble illustrates the differences in agricultural consumption in some areas of the world by contrasting the amount of irrigated land in Brazil(26500²)with that in the D.R.C(100²). This means that a huge amount of water is used in agriculture in Brazil, and this is reflected in the figures fo

、r water consumption per person:359 m³ compared with only 8 m³ in the Congo. With a population of 176 million, the figures for Brazil indicate how high agricultural water consumption can be in some countries.剑6test3The first diagram shows that there are four main stages in the life of the si

、lk worm.  First of all, eggs are produced by the moth and it takes ten days for each egg to become a silkworm larva that feeds on mulberry leaves. This stage lasts for up to six weeks until the larva produces a cocoon of silk thread around itself. After a period of about three we

、eks, the adult moths eventually emerge from these cocoons and the life cycle begins again.   The cocoons are the raw material used for the production of silk cloth. Once selected, they are boiled in water and the threads can be separated in the unwinding stage. Each thread is between

、300 and 900 metres long, which means they can be twisted together, dyed and then used to produce cloth in the weaving stage.Overall, the diagrams show that the cocoon stage of the silkworm can be used to produce silk cloth through a very simple process.剑7test2The graph illustrates changes in the amo

、unts of beef, lamp, chicken, and, fish consumed in a particular European country between 1979 and 2004.In 1979 beef was by far the most popular of these foods, with about 225 grams consumed per person per week. Lamp and chicken were eaten in similar quantities (around 150 grams), while much less fis

、h was consumed (just over 50 grams) However, during this 25-year period the consumption of beef and lamp fell dramatically to approximately 100 grams and 55 grams respectively. The consumption of fish also declined, but much less significantly to just below 50 grams, so although it remained the leas

By 2004 it had soared to almost 250 grams per person per week.Overall, the graph shows the consumption of chicken increased drammatically while the popu
