2、mbridge Alfred Tennyson was one of the most popular poets of the Victorian age. He was born in Somersby, Lincolnshire, a rectors son and fourth of 12 children. He entered Trinity College, Cambridge in 1827. After Wordsworths death in 1850, Tennyson was appointed to the position of Poet Laureate, whi

3、ch he held until his own death in 1892, by far the longest tenure of any laureate before or since. Queen Victoria was an ardent admirer of Tennysons work, and in 1884 created him Baron Tennyson who became the first to be raised to a British Peerage for his writing. He was succeeded as 2nd Baron Tenn

4、yson by his son, Hallam, who produced an authorised biography of his father in 1897, and was later the second Governor-General of Australia . He died on 6 October 1892 at Aldworth, aged 83 and was buried in the poets corner of Westminster Abbey. Break, Break, Break is a lyric poem by Alfred Lord Ten

5、nyson written during early 1835 and published in 1842. It centers on Tennysons grief over the death of his best friend, Arthur Hallam, a promising poet and essayist who had been engaged to Tennysons sister, Emily. In this poem, the poets own feelings of grief stands in sharp contrast with the carefr

To underscore this idea, and to express the agony he suffers at the loss of young Hallam, Tennyson presents images of youthful joy: the fishermans son playing with his sister and the sailor lad singing in the bay. Indifference of Nature Nature continues to function according to its rhythms and cycles regardless of what happens, good or bad, to human beings. It does not stop to mourn the loss of anyone. Cold and indifferent, it carries on, the waves of the ocean breaking against rocks along the seashore without pausing even for a moment
