11、 and put on a train to the no rth. For two days and ni ghts the train traveled n orth, and for two days and ni ghts Buck n either ate nor dra nk. As the fat man hit the box with his ax, Buck jumped at the sides, growling and biting, pull ing with his teeth at the pieces of broke n wood. 16、to the ground. There was blood on his nose and mouth and ears. Then the fat man walked up and hit him aga in, very hard, on the no se. The pain was terrible. Aga in, Buck jumped at the man and aga in he was hit to the gro und. At last whe n he jumped, the man kno cked him dow n and he did not move.8

35、ams. He understood that once a dog was down on the ground, he was dead.
