It can stre ngthe n the teacher charm; stir the stude nts interest; make teaching become Simple; understand students clearly; and help to improve the four basic skills of learning Ianguag

5、e: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The author also discusses the using of three major kinds of body Ianguage in English teaching and the prin ciples of using the body Ian guage teach ing .At the same time, the author also discusses the applicati on of body Ian guage in En glish teach ing.

6、 The forty-five minu tes in class is very precious if a teacher wan ts to get more effective he must use the body Ian guage properly and correctly.Key Words: Body Lan guage; En glish Teach ing; Facial Expressi ons; Postures4随着英语教学法的不断深入发展,人们要求英语教师在课堂上使用英语组织教学 并为学生学习英语创设学习环境。然而,由于学生词汇量的限制,教师在课堂上要简化 自

7、己的语言,这就需要肢体语言的协助。肢体语言在课堂上得到了广泛的应用。同时, 在英语教学中它也扮演了非常重要的角色。在这篇文章中,笔者主要论述了肢体语言在教学中的重要性:能引起学生兴趣,能 促进和谐的师生关系,能帮助教师简化教学,以及如何恰当的使用目光语、手势语、面 部语言等肢体语言。同时也指出了使用肢体语言需要注意的几点事项和肢体语言在英语 教学中的应用。四十五分钟的授课时间是极为短暂的,要向短短的四十五分钟要效益, 就要求教师尽可能的合理使用肢体语言,大大加强自己的教学效果。关键词:肢体语言;目光语;手势语;面部表情;仪态语AcknowledgementsThis thesis is the

Such cram ming method of teachi ng brings up the stude nts who have good marks but low ability If teachers want to arouse the stude nts erests so thatthey can lear n better en courage them and enhance the efficie ncy of classroom teach ing they have to use

Using body Ian guage in the En glish teach ing is one of them.Body Ian guage studies are now in academia a brand -new theory .So body Ian guage application in classroom teaching exploration still are short .American psychologist James Asher JPR teachi ng is the body Ian guage in

16、the teach ing experime nt.Comb ined with myself in En glish teach ing how to use body Ian guage I tried to discuss the applicati on of body Ian guage in En glish teach ing .This thesis aims to research the n ecessity and importanee of body Ianguage and there are four major kinds of body Ianguage in

17、this thesis and we will discuss how to use of them properly and correctly and we will discuss some prin ciples whe n we use the body Ian guage.1 The Necessity and Importance of Using Body Language in English TeachingBody Ian guage is an importa nt media through which people com muni cate with each o

18、ther .It refers to the process of com muni cati ng what you are feeli ng or thi nki ng by the way you place and move your body rather tha n by words. A famous an thropologist E.T. Hall pointed “ silentanguages express more information than verbal Ianguage. Because body Ian guage is used more times t

19、ha n verbal Ian guage. The Un ited States psychologist Albert Melab in, 1968, made an experime nt to prove that the total result of the I in formatio n 7writi ng 38t one 55co untenance and moveme nt. And the specialist on body Ian guage research Fen Lafel An gles once said “ Oncody Ianguage was lost

20、 a body couldn have grown into ano rmal pers on.So body Ian guage plays an esse ntial role in huma n com muni cati on. Every oneknows with the continual reform and ope ning of China En glish is beco ming more importa nt in many fields for example in economy sport and scie nee. The developme nt of so

21、ciety is in great need of a large number of people with rich English knowledge .The wildest use of En glish is to com muni cate .And with the continual reform of Ian guage teach ing and lear ning methods teachers are in great dema nd to orga nize the classes in En glish and create En glish -ear ning

22、 circumsta nces .So com muni cated En glish is very importa nt. Com mun icated En glish means that teachers teach En glish in En glish and the stude nts are also required to use En glish in class .However with the limitati on of stude nts vocabulary teachers have to orga nize their 6teach ing with t

Pe

25、ople com muni cate with each other by their body Ian guage in the ways of nodding, eye con tact ing, shruggi ng and so on. Accord ing to the psychologists research, these ways can express something that verbal Ianguage can not directly express. Body Ian guage can be divided into sight Ian guage; bod

26、y touches Ian guage, posture, gesture, manner, facial expressi on, and clothes Ian guage.1.2 Functions of Using Body Language1.2.1 Stirring the Students interestsA famous person ever said, “Interest is the best teacher.” So attracting and improving thestude nts interest is a very importa nt part of

27、En glish teach ing. There are many ways to arousethe stude ntsin terest. Body Ian guage used in En glish teach ing is one of them. The lin guist MrLu ever said:“ The foreig n Ian guage teacher should be able to perforanaedod joy madea vivid gesture movement and countenance as an actor should not alw

28、ays be gentle and cultivated or just sta nd stiffly on the platform.” But how do we attract the stude ntsby using body Ian guage Below I will example to illustrate this problem. For example: Whe n teachers teach the words of the body parts such as :“head”“nose”“face ”“hanlet the stude nts touch thei

29、r body own body parts. By using body Ian guage the stude nts must be full of pleasure in this class. So body Ianguage plays an important role in Stirring the stude nts in terest.1.2.2 Helping to Improve the Four Basic Skills of Learning Language:Listening, Speaking, Reading, and WritingUsing body Ia

30、nguage can help to improve the four basic skills of learning Ianguage: liste ning speak ing read ing and writ ing.A: Body Ian guage helps to improve liste ning.The Greek philosopher Epictetus ever wittily said:“ Nature has give man one ton guetwo ears that he may hear twice as much as he speaks.” Fr

31、om thersayng hoewcimporta nt the liste ning is in our daily life. To un dersta nd others is a basic purpose in En glish teach ing and teachers ofte n train the stude nts liste ning accord in glyn this process if the body Ian guage is used the effect will be better.B: Body Ian guage helps to improve

32、speak ing.The spoke n Ian guage is one of the importa nt ways to com muni cate. So we should try to develop the students ability of speaking. Factually they are helped to reach the aim in acerta in degree by their teacherangudged yThe con temporary emphasis gradually laid on spoke n En glish teachi

The first less on of every unit in Senior En glish beg ins with dialogue.The teach ing programs require the teachers to orga nize the class to practice En glish accord ing to the characteristics of dialogue. Gen erally speak ing the body Ian guage can arouse and susta in the stude nts in terest

34、of lea ning and using En glish. In the En glish class the teachers should not only use body Ianguages themselves but also ask the students to use them accord ing to the differe nt situati on.C: Body Ian guage helps to improve read ing.Readi ng aloud helps the stude ntsto get a correct pronun ciati o

35、n and inton ati on and to develop the comb in ati on of vocabularies pronun ciatio n spelli ng and meaning. Furthermore it also helps the students to find out the article s internal feelings and appreciate the beautthe Ian guage. A lin guist ever said:“ A poem is not a poem un til it is read.” Readi

36、basic for the middle school stude nts. And the teachers should make full use of body Ian guage to develop the stude nts ability of read ing aloud.In a word the vivid gesture together with the flue nt En glish can create a good circumstanee of learning, which will surely play an active part in improv

37、e the students read ing ability.D: Body Ian guage helps to improve writi ng.Writ ing is one of the four basic skills of lear ning Ian guage, and it is so importa nt a skillthat we can eve n say without it, people can not com muni cate with others. Not only should the stude nts get some En glish kno

38、wledge and vocabularies, but also the ability to com muni cate in spoke n and writte n En glish as what is men tio ned in the teach ing programs. To some exte nt, writing is much more important than speaking, for it can spread without the limitation of apace and time .Si nee the stude nts lear n En

39、glish as a media for commun icati on, they should have the ability of writ ing.The linguist Franklin ever said: “Tellme, I will forget; teach me, I will remember;invo Ive me and I will learn.” If we askedtsitostuiide an un familiar compositi on, theywould probably be un able to and feel discouraged.

40、 However the stude nts can write excelle nt articles if they have the experie nee.2. The Using of Three Major Kinds of Body Languages in English Classroom Teaching2.1 The Using of Eyesight in English TeachingAs saying goes:“The eyes are the window of the soul.” That is to say, we can read omind thro

41、ugh his eyes .Eye Ian guage can express complicated feeli ngs and it is an importa nt way to judge the relati on ship of com muni cators. People from En glish speak ing coun tries have more eye con tact whe n they are in con versati on. As the result, the teacher should use the eyesight effetely in

42、the En glish class.First, teachers could get to know what the stude nts doubt, how they love or hate whether they approve or disprove from the stude nts sight.Second, teachers could know whether the stude nts fully focus on the less on through their eyes. If a stude nt who liste ns to the teacher ca

43、refully ,he should follow the teacher with the eyesightf there is a stude nt look ing around the classroom ,that expresses he did n the teacher carefully.Third, a teacher should always use a kind of eyesight to his stude nts. For example, if the stude nts are still excit ing before class, the teache

44、r can look around the whole class to express the meaning that it is the class time. And whe n you start the class, you find some one is late for class, you had better use your eyesight to allow him/her to come into the classroo m, in order to avoid disrupt ing the other stude nts atte nti on.In shor

45、t, the loving and kind eyesight often make the students follow the teaching contents .It is useful for En glish teach ing.2.2 The Using of Facial Expressions in English Teaching“ Thrace has been called an orgaof emotion Because we constantly read facialexpressi ons to un dersta nd what others are fe

46、eli ng. The face provides vital clues to our own feeli ngs and those of the people around us. Of all the non verbal Chann els, the face is the most importa nt broadcaster of emoti ons. ”Because the face can clearly con vey several specific emoti ons, such as: happ in ess, surprise fear an ger ,sad n

47、ess and so on .so if the teacher can use the facial expressi ons in our teach ing properly, which will get the same success as the dumb show.First, the teacher should learn to adjust own facial expressions. Just imagine the following two different situations. One teacher enters the classroom with a

48、smile; another teacher walks into the classroom very seriously; obviously, these two differe nt teachers will make the students act differently. The first teacher can bring an active atmosphere. But the sec ond teacher will bring the stude nts sile nee because of his dull facial expressi on.Second,

49、the teacher should pay much atte ntio n to the stude ntsessio n facgaltexprthe in formati on. On the basis of this, the teacher can adjust their teacher to be better. I n the class, if a stude nt is always filled smili ng, it expresses he can grasp easily what the teacher said ;if a student face is

50、full of bewilderment, which express he can understand what the teacher said. So, if a teacher is good at observing the students facial expression, he must make a great success in teachi ng.2.3 The Using of Postures in the English Teaching“ Postures are a matter of how peoplesit, walk, stand, and mov

51、e. It ”is body Ianguage most explicit represe ntati on. Frond once said“ No one can really keep secret. If he does nottalk and keep sile nt, he will talk with his fin gers. In a whole, part of his body will sell him out. ”ln fact, this statement refers that people body Ianguages, especially postures

52、 can deliver more hidde n in formatio n.In classroom teachi ng, the stude nts body postures. An elega nt gesture teacher can provide stude nts with a good visual experie nee, and can make the stude nts have a pleasa nt mood. And It can help the stude nts to cultivate their En glish course of in tere

Conv ersely, if a teacher has some small bad habits, such as hands rub, nose pick, legs trebl thescandisperse the stude nts atte nti on, and thmskainem be fed up with the teacher, so that they lose their in terests for En glish.First, the teachers should have elega nt posture of sitti ng and sta

54、 nding whe n a teacher sits, he should sit straight; and whe n he sta nds, he should high up his head.Second, a teacher had better not wear the shoes with high heels, because whe n a teacher walks, high heels can possibly disturb the stude nts atte nti on.Third, the teacher should lear n to walk int

55、o the stude nts hearts. For example ,whe n the students discuss the questions, you can walk in the middle of them to help them solve the questi ons; and whe n you have classes, if some one make mistakes ,you can walk closely the students to warm him he mustn t do that. In a word, as a teacher, you s

56、hould walk into the students hearts really. It will be useful for the English teaching.At last, the tone and speed whe n you speak are the ways of postures.From the above, we already have known tone is very important to transfer the in formatio nn the En glish classroom teachi ng, tone is also play

When a teacher teachessome Ian guage poin ts, he can emphasize the importa nt parts by rais ing the tone and slow ing the speed.From the above, we can see the postures play importa nt role in the En glish teach ing.3 The Principles of Using the Body Language TeachingIf a teacher

58、wants to use the body Ian guage in his teachi ng class, he must pay atte nti on to the follow ing no tes: A: Using body Ian guage in En glish classes must accord with the physical features of middle school stude nts and the teachi ng conten ts. B: Prepari ng earn estly the students, designing body Ianguage problems for them C: Doing the same for the whole stude nts; respect, believe, love the stude nts! D: Using body Ian guage must cooperate to the verbal la nguage. E: Making note of the differe nces of body Ian guage in differe nt culture.3.1 Us
